Forum:Trademark Images
I want to amend the current image policy to allow images trademarked by Square Enix and the Walt Disney Company to be left alone because these are generally the best that can be distributed. Byzantinefire - There are no strings on me (talk) 00:26, 16 July 2017 (UTC)
- Ok now i really want the rule appealed and justice for it as well. Byzantinefire - There are no strings on me (talk) 03:33, 16 July 2017 (UTC)
- The best images that can be distributed are the ones that are most accurate to the material being covered -- i.e., stills from the trailers or games."We're werewolves, not swearwolves." (KrytenKoro) 03:49, 16 July 2017 (UTC)
- I hate what you did. Byzantinefire - There are no strings on me (talk) 03:50, 16 July 2017 (UTC)
- The images can easily be screenshotted from the trailers. I just checked, and they don't have the trademarks during the trailer itself. I don't currently see the need to alter this part of the image policy. Also, to respect copyrights, we don't upload super high-quality; that's the price of a fair use wiki. - Screenshot images are garbage they should be ones thrown out not mine i refuse to respect this outdated policy. Byzantinefire - There are no strings on me (talk) 03:57, 16 July 2017 (UTC)
- Understand that if you continue to violate wiki policy, you will be blocked. The correct course of action is to discuss the policy, not disobey it. KeybladeSpyMaster 03:59, 16 July 2017 (UTC)
- The watermark is present on such images specifically to prevent other people from using them without permission. When we have the ability to use more ethical images, we have the responsibility to, whether or not they are the highest visual quality or not.
- I'm okay with you hating what I did. The only thing that will change my mind on it is whether it is (1) against the consensus policies of the wiki, and (2) detrimental to the wiki's quality and legal standing."We're werewolves, not swearwolves." (KrytenKoro) 04:01, 16 July 2017 (UTC)
- Do you have any idea how furious i am about this. Byzantinefire - There are no strings on me (talk) 04:00, 16 July 2017 (UTC)
- Comments like that are non-progressive to the discussion. Follow the wiki's policy, or leave. It's as simple as that. 173.244.48.195 12:42, 16 July 2017 (UTC)

- You really need to stop being so possessive over this. Despite your claim elsewhere, you do not "have a monopoly to maintain" regarding images; this is a collaborative project and should be treated as such. Ultima Spark (talk) 16:16, 16 July 2017 (UTC)

- And what collaborative project project the wiki has been largely stagnant and it might help the wiki if many of the old rules go. Byzantinefire - There are no strings on me (talk) 16:44, 16 July 2017 (UTC)

If you can provide a logical and reasonable argument for why allowing watermarked images or altering any given rule will help the wiki, the policy may be changed. Otherwise, it will stay as us. I don't personally agree with all the wiki's current policies, and I've brought them up before and will continue to do so. But that doesnt give me or anyone else the right to simply ignore them. Until they are changed by wiki consensus, all of us are subject to the rules on this wiki. KeybladeSpyMaster 17:07, 16 July 2017 (UTC)

- Again, because we are required, as a wiki, to respect copyrights, we cannot and we highly discourage the use of images that are too high-quality. It's in the license templates themselves. Therefore, the high quality of the images isn't of importance here, and it really shouldn't be of importance on any wiki running MediaWiki software. Also, I don't see how changing this rule will change the likelihood that people will cone to the wiki and edit. There's no direct correlation between the two. The only reason I could see for allowing them is because it's just easier, but given that screenshotting the trailers themselves isn't that much more complicated (I just have to push Windows+Pent Scrn), there really isn't a lot of advantage afforded by using the Disney-provided images. - No one on the Disney Wiki seems to have a problem with it. Byzantinefire - There are no strings on me (talk) 17:56, 16 July 2017 (UTC)
- This isn't the Disney wiki. They have their rules, we have ours. Respect ours here, respect theirs over there. Chainoffire 18:13, 16 July 2017 (UTC)

- "Compromise where you can. Where you can't, don't. Even if everyone is telling you that something wrong is something right. Even if the whole world is telling you to move, it is your duty to plant yourself like a tree, look them in the eye, and say, 'No, *you* move'." - You can keep telling that to yourself or can start listen to the arguments made here. Watermarked images are lower quality by default, I'm not completely sure why you are constantly trying to convince us otherwise. On top of that we're still just talking about trailer screenshots here, which to 99% don't have any actual use here and may not even a representative for the final quality and content of the released game in the end. You are getting way too worked up about this non-issue. Finally, if this really was the Disney Wikia we would simply delete this whole conversation and block your account, a method that also seemed to work fine for yourself in the past.--ShardofTruth 18:44, 16 July 2017 (UTC)
- Fine i consent but i never want to hear the word block again. Byzantinefire - There are no strings on me (talk) 18:46, 16 July 2017 (UTC)
