Discussion[edit]
Should we have a "Votes FOR" and "Votes AGAINST" or keep it as it is now? TheFifteenthMember 19:16, 12 September 2014 (UTC)
- I think the former, as it gives opportunity to voice why not. We'll also be able to tell the difference between not wanting an election, and general site inactivity. KeybladeSpyMaster 19:29, 12 September 2014 (UTC)
Remind me, what called this on? What projects need "staff power" help? Chainoffire 19:59, 12 September 2014 (UTC)
- There hasn't been a particular ignition trigger, however with more staff leaving/becoming inactive, an extra helping hand would be useful to slightly relieve the workload of the current staff. TheFifteenthMember 20:08, 12 September 2014 (UTC)
Imo, any respected and well known community member should be able to apply for a staff position at any time (with an obvious limit to how often you can apply), it's then up to the community to decide to be for it or against it. No special elections should be needed, it's just a bureaucratic speed bump. Sove 20:33, 12 September 2014 (UTC)
I want to re-iterate that I only asked this (originally) in part to see if the staff felt they needed the extra help, even if it's temporarily. So, in part, I'd especially like to hear/see the staff's opinions/feelings toward this. The other part is, as mentioned, because of some projects (the first one that comes to mind being this one) extensively require the help of the staff, but it's being done by several users, and then left to one or two staff members to complete. Not to mention, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX is coming out soon, and with all the new content from Kingdom Hearts Re:coded, we're gonna need help. But again, this relies on whether or not the staff feels they don't have any pressure/burden. KeybladeSpyMaster 22:05, 12 September 2014 (UTC)
I personally think that it should be FM. He has made so many edits, formats the grammar/writing on each page, and does what the staff members DON'T do. The king (KSM) on the other hand, pretty much takes off where Kyrten left of. He designs the theme, and is basically the "leader" here, doing what staff members should do. Basically, I think of him as a staff member already, but I agree that he should become a staff member. Or FM, but likely the king (KSM). RikutheBloody12:24, 13 September 2014 (UTC)
- Ah, the return of staff elections. It's been a year or two since we had one, I think... Anyways, it's obvious you guys want to have an election. Also, even though I am now a part of the inactive staff problem, I know that we have some projects/daily things to be done that can only be done by staff. However, moderator positions don't really mean much except that most moderators eventually move up to admins in a later time. I think moving Chaser and a new person to admin status would be okay, and adding a new person as moderator. This is all under the idea that an election will be held.
Also, I'm going to throw this out there very frankly. It is incredibly distasteful and insulting to point fingers and insinuate that the staff don't do stuff that "staff members should do." To be quite honest, I take offense to that statement. The staff members, especially those active, have done plenty of work in such fields that you claim we don't or have not. Check out our contributions for specifics or our edit count for a general idea. Everyone contributes with what they can. I am terrible at image editing or creation, so I don't do such things. However, I help out elsewhere- such as uploading/finding newer images, personality section writing, manga articles, moving images to Photobucket, etc. Even when we aren't editing the mainspace, we are contributing elsewhere. Be it archiving the "featured 'x'" sections, deletions, reviewing other editor's work, and the like. I understand that it is frustrating to not see the complete list of staff be active or do a ton of work. However, I ask for your understanding in that we are people outside of this Wiki. We are people with every days lives that we must keep up so we can edit on this wonderful database. Sometimes we don't always have the time necessary for big projects or edits. Also, let it be known, that if anyone has something they want to tell me, they can freely do so on my talkpage or when I'm on the IRC. You think I'm not doing enough? Let me know. You think I made a bad edit? Tell me! You think I'm a jerk? You can post that on there as well. However, I can promise you one thing, even when we aren't able to edit, we still think about what we can do for the Wiki. Xion4ever 22:33, 14 September 2014 (UTC)
I meant no offense when I said that. Of course, the Staff Members do a lot, I just find KSM just like one, doing most on this wiki. Of course, everybody plays there part. And what I meant by what Staff Members should do, I meant that he does Staff Member work, not that Staff Members don't do anything, because they do plenty, and might not have time on their hands. Of course, we couldn't go a single day without one, (if we do, it will be hard,) but I find KSM's contributions amazing, which is why I call him a king. You guys do plenty, but KSM just deserves to be a Staff Member, his edits are already like one, and he's there to cover for everyone. ^_^ Honestly, I can't describe it more. Besides, my work is nothing compared to Staff Members. Oh, and Xion, I think you're a kind, and generous person. You edit really nice, and be kind to people. You are far from a jerk. Sorry to offend anyone. RikutheBloody 23:06, 14 September 2014 (UTC)
- Not here to downgrade our current staff, just thinking we need another hand in our work. ANX219 00:02, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
- For the sake of sanity among other things, I believe that it's best to save the "who deserves to be staff" until after we've discussed the matter at hand. So this forum should be left for the simple (yet seemingly complicated) question: Should there be a staff election in the first place? Who should be elected should be discussed if and when the staff election takes place. Chainoffire 04:15, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
