It was discussed yesterday at the Roundtable that Saturday may not be the most advantagous day to have Roundtables. It was suggested that it was moved to Friday or Sunday. Since this is an entire community decision, we didn't want to limit it to the opinions of the editors present yesterday. Please discuss below what day (Friday, Saturday, or Sunday) would be best to host the Roundtables.

I don't think Friday is a good idea, because many people have school or work. We originally chose Saturday evenings to best compromise between our Jewish and Christian editors, but the people showing up on Saturday don't seem to be super-Sunday Christians, and the time we have is too late in the evening for a lot of people, yet still a bit early for some of our Jewish editors to attend, as far as I can tell.
I know Erry has school on Sunday, but honestly, we're getting really terrible attendance at these things. Unless we can all be available for sometime during the week (and that would have to be two hours later than we meet now), I think Sunday but a few hours earlier than we meet now would be the best bet.
The other option is to figure out who is actually needed at these roundtables. Ideally, we would have nearly the whole community in attendance, but that doesn't seem possible. We definitely need as many staff as possible in attendance, since most of the decisions made at the roundtables can only be implemented by them. Can the staff who have yet to fill out their hours on the staff page, please do so?

Actually, in the US, work usually runs past 4:00pm, which would be nine for Central and 11:00 for Pacific. School (at least mine) gets out at 2:30, meaning that I get home at 3:00, which, in central time, is 8:00pm UTC, so I'd be fine. But people in mountain time and Pacific time wouldn't be so fortunate. As I said at the Roundtable, I'm fine with any day, though I lean slightly toward Sunday, since by then my family is usually done doing things for the week. Attendance issues on my part have little to do with the actual day and time, and more with my parents springing things on me.

If you ask me, I think lack of attendance at the Roundtables is because people don't know that they're being held. I propose a big sitenotice -- a BIG sitenotice -- that lets people know when the next roundtable is. And when the date to hold the roundtable draws near, it can be in like flashing text: THE ROUNDTABLE ON THE IRC IS TOMORROW SHOW UP PLZ. The reason I didn't attend the last few is simply because I forgot about them. (plus that, my schedule the past few weeks has been PACKED, I've had rarely any time for the wiki/IRC)
Even if I'm wrong about people not knowing about Roundtables, I'll still push for the big flashing sitenotice.

I completely agree with Lego. I've been to maybe one Roundtable, because I don't know the Roundtable actually happens on that day until it ends. Also, I have no clue how to convert EST to UTC...

To convert any time zone to any time zone, check out a time zone converter.
Also, i highly recommend not having a flashing notice. It's distracting for people and they can find it irritating.

A more prominent reminder the day before the meeting would definitely be helpful. Whether I manage to make the meeting or not, I tend to only barely remember a few hours beforehand that there is one.

With the big flashing text, you run the chance of people missing it completely, since many people out there simply close flashing stuff, assuming it is an ad or because it causes them pain (as well as other problems, like headaches and seizures)

I think it's pretty easy to distinguish a sitenotice from an ad. Plus, its not hard to give whatever you're closing a quick look, long enough to know that it's an ad and not something else.

And what happens if we go with this "flashing notice" method and still yet again the same result? My opinion is that we've been doing this for a few months and it's been at a static place and a static time: First Saturday at 9PM UTC. And if anyone forgets, they just need to go look at the Roundtable page.
EDIT: And about the roundtable, I think it should be at least 1 hour earlier, rather than a full day back or forward. That way it's equal.

Moving the 'Table isn't the best idea; ever since school started and I've had marching band practice, I've had no time at all on weekdays for anything besides saxophone, sweating, and homework. People just need to know about them; I'd say bigger sitenotices and talk page pings to the consistently reliable people.
Also, you guys probably don't care, but I'm almost always on the IRC on the weekdays, and on the off chance that I'm out having a life, I 9 times out of 10 will keep my client on to log. I suggest anybody else who can does this same thing so you can keep up with what happened, even if you weren't there (God/ENUO knows the Roundtable page's summaries don't help for crap...)
About the actual meeting time, I think its fine where it is...

If we're thinking of moving Roundtable times, can we throw the west-coasties a bone and make it later? It's difficult for them (me included) to plan around the eastern time zones when they have to do everything 2-3+ hours earlier than the rest.

I'm not sure how necessary I am to the proceedings, although the fewer the staff members that are present, the more I'd be needed, especially if Kryten and DTN are absent, so here's where I'm at:
If we stay with Saturdays, I would be able to make it only if it were at night, especially during the summer, when sunset is so late. As we get later into the fall and winter, I'll be able to make earlier and earlier times. Right now I couldn't make it earlier than 9pm, eastern time, but in a few months I may be able to do as early as 6 pm. So yeah, my availability fluctuates.
Similarly, if we move to fridays, I can currently do late afternoon, maybe early evening, still eastern time, but soon I'd only be able to do early friday afternoons.
Sunday is still best for me, I don't mind doing it sunday afternoons.

Moving it 2-3 hours later would make it way too late for European users who might wish to join in, remember that TNE is from the UK, moving the meeting 2-3 hours would mean 12 AM or 1 AM in the UK. Roundtables are already held so the timing is unfair for us, don't make it even more unfair, we don't deserve it just because we happen to live here. -_-

I agree with Sove; moving the meeting to a later time would probably cause problems for some European users, so I don't think we should do that. It would be best for me, and most likely for some other users as well, if the meeting was held one hour earlier, so that I can attend it as well.

Chitalian8 Say... — Only by allowing strangers in can we find new ways to be ourselves. Life's little crossroads are often as simple as the pull of a trigger. — 03:07, 4 September 2011 (UTC)

Seems that the general consensus is to leave it as it is, but with a little more notice before it happens.

Leave it as is. It is the best day for me. Most people have some kind of classes Monday through Friday, and Sunday is a day that a lot of people reserve for church.
The possibilities of having the roundtables on any other day of the week will simply turn into offshoot time loops that will fill in the paradoxes of the alpha timeline.
