Kingdom Hearts: Difference between revisions

In the "age of fairy tales", when the World was whole, Kingdom Hearts was believed to be the source of all light. It was protected by its counterpart, the [[χ-blade]]. Many came to desire the power of light contained within Kingdom Hearts, and they clashed together, wielding the [[Keyblade]]s they created in the image of the χ-blade. Their greed and jealousy introduced darkness into the World, and in the aftermath of this [[Keyblade War]], the χ-blade was shattered into twenty pieces, seven of light and thirteen of darkness. The World was consumed by the darkness in which Kingdom Hearts disappeared into.{{storylink|Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance}}

Years later, a Keyblade wielder named [[Xehanort]] studied the legends surrounding Kingdom Hearts, the χ-blade, and the Keyblade War. After he became a [[Keyblade Master]], he became a seeker to find a way to reforge the χ-blade, summon Kingdom Hearts, and restart the Keyblade War in order to recreate the World as a balance between light and darkness. Xehanort sets up such a plan when he extracted the heart of his pupil [[Ventus]], whom he was training to make into a vessel to prolong his life to see the results of the new Keyblade War he planned, to create [[Vanitas]]. He left Ventus with his fellow former student, [[Master Eraqus]], with the intention of having him and Vanitas clash at equal strength in the future to create the χ-blade.

Ten years before [[Sora]]'s first journey, having orchestrated the events to unfold in his favor, Xehanort drew [[Terra]], Ventus, and [[Aqua]] to the [[Keyblade Graveyard]], the site of the Keyblade War and the only place where the χ-blade would manifest. During the initial clash between himself and Vantias against the Keyblade wielders, Xehanort summons Kingdom Hearts in the sky overhead. While Ventus and Vanitas clash, Xehanort faces Terra, whom he encourages to embrace the darkness as the first of many vessels for his heart to occupy. While Vanitas forcefully reintegrates into Ventus's body to create the χ-blade, Xehanort transfers his heart into Terra. However, Ventus and Aqua's combined efforts succeed in defeating Vanitas and destroying the χ-blade, while the new incarnation of [[Terra-Xehanort|Xehanort]] is defeated by Terra's [[Lingering Will]] and is knocked unconcious. As Terra-Xehanort is swept away by the explosion of light from the χ-blade, Kingdom Hearts is covered by clouds and disappears from the sky.

An amnesiac Terra-Xehanort is taken in by [[Ansem the Wise]], and he becomes his top apprentice. Assisted by Master Xehanort's co-conspirator, [[Braig]], Xehanort overthrows Ansem, banishes him, and takes his name. Together with Ansem the Wise's other apprentices, they conduct experiments into the heart, which result in the release of the [[Heartless]] into the [[Realm of Light]], the loss of the apprentices' hearts, and the creation of both Xehanort's Heartless, [[Ansem, Seeker of Darkness]], and the Nobody [[Xemnas]]. As Xehanort manipulated [[Maleficent]] into searching for Kingdom Hearts prior to the events at the Keyblade Graveyard, Ansem is tasked to oversee her progress into gathering the Seven [[Princesses of Heart]]. In conjunction, Xemnas and Braig's Nobody, Xigbar, established Organization XIII to create a Kingdom Hearts of their own.

After Radiant Garden's fall by the Heartless, the ruins were taken over by Maleficent who rechristened the castle [[Hollow Bastion]].  Ten years after the clash at the Keyblade Graveyard, Maleficent and her alliance of villains seek out a way to reach Kingdom Hearts, in the hopes of gaining immeasurable power and knowledge and dominion over all worlds. To accomplish this, they search for the Seven Princesses of Heart, maidens that possess hearts of pure light who, when brought together, will reveal the [[Final Keyhole]] leading to Kingdom Hearts. Additionally, they release hordes of Heartless into many worlds so they will consume the worlds' hearts. They destroy many worlds, and the hearts gather in the [[Realm of Darkness]] to create Kingdom Hearts. Although they manage to capture all seven Princesses, each of the villains is defeated by [[Sora]].

But with six princesses already in Maleficent's possession, Ansem decided to possess [[Riku]]'s body and create a [[Keyblade of heart]] from the six hearts. However, the Keyblade and Final Keyhole are incomplete due to the heart of the final princess, [[Kairi]], residing in Sora's body. Upon learning of this after driving the possessed Riku off, Sora uses Ansem's Keyblade to return Kairi's heart to her body. Unfortunately, Ansem reappears and uses the completed Keyhole to travel to the [[End of the World]], while the six princesses muster the strength to contain much of the darkness as Sora's group flees Hollow Bastion.

As Maleficent and her forces ravaged the worlds, Organization XIII worked to collect [[Hearts]] by destroying the Emblem Heartless to create its own Kingdom Hearts with Xemnas and Braig promising the other members that they would all become complete beings again. However, as only those who use Keyblade can release the Heartless's hearts to join with Kingdom Hearts, it was only be the induction of [[Roxas]] and [[Xion]] that the Organization makes big strides as seen from the windows of the [[Castle That Never Was]]'s Grey Room. Though both left, with Xion returning into Sora's memories that were infused into Roxas before he was integrated back into Sora, Xemnas decided to use Sora to finish what the two former members started.

While watching Sora's progress from afar, it would only during the [[Battle of the 1000 Heartless]] that the Organization reveals its agenda to Sora. However, Maleficent, having been revived earlier, refuses to let the Organization take what she sees to be rightfully hers. Though the membership dwindled to four by the time Sora arrives to the World that Never Was, the youth managed to place Kingdom Hearts with the ideal amount of hearts which Xemnas planned to become one with. However, [[Ansem the Wise]]'s attempt to digitize Kingdom Hearts and seal it away with a [[Kingdom Hearts Encoder|digital encoder]] that overloaded from the unpredictable object. The resulting explosion that sent Ansem into the [[Realm of Darkness#Settings and Areas|Dark Margin]] and restored Riku's original form left a giant hole in Kingdom Hearts, causing countless hearts to rain down over the world, becoming Heartless as soon as they touch the surface of the Dark City.

With Kingdom Hearts damaged, Xemnas needs to start all over again and decides to go through with his merging into it after seeing that Sora and his friends refuse to help him. However, the worlds provide a door for Sora and his companions to enter Kingdom Hearts as well. Xemnas had already absorbed Kingdom Hearts' power, and attempts to use it against his opponents. Though he tries his best, and nearly defeats them, the combined efforts of Sora and his friends bring about his downfall. What ultimately happens to Kingdom Hearts after Xemnas' defeat is unknown.
