In Kingdom Hearts III, after completing her training with Lea and Merlin, Kairi is shown using the Pearl, Fire and Cure spells during the battle against Xion and Saïx. She is also seen holding her own in single combat against Xion before Sora enters the area to assist her, even managing to incapacitate her temporarily before she is overwhelmed by Saïx. In the cut-scene before the boss fight against Xion and Saix, Kairi barely blocks a blow from an incoming Xion, but then falls for a feint swing made by the latter, allowing her to be flung away by another attack. Despite her training, Kairi is still able to do little to defend herself, as Terra-Xehanort appears right in front of her nearly striking her down, and must rely on Sora again to come to her defense, as she merely looks at her adversary in shock without summoning her Keyblade. Another instance of this is when Xemnas appears behind her and grabs her by the wrist, in a similar manner to Axel in Kingdom Hearts II, making no attempt to break free, only reaching out and calling for Sora to come to her defense. She is once again easily captured by Organization XIII. Even though Kairi trained for a good amount of time with Axel, she doesn't have very much to show for it, although this may be attributed to her lack of experience in the battlefield, compared to the others.
