"no source"[edit]

The Ultimania is the source."We're werewolves, not swearwolves." (KrytenKoro) 14:35, 8 March 2019 (UTC)

I looked through the Ultimania and found that Young Xehanort borrowed Master Xehanort's power, but there wasn't any mention of possession. Master Xedrek (talk) 21:32, 9 March 2019 (UTC)
Xehanort Experience Record, as I recall."We're werewolves, not swearwolves." (KrytenKoro) 22:28, 10 March 2019 (UTC)
I went through a translated diagram called the “Xehanort Experience Record”, and there was still no mention of possession. The closest info I could ascertain was that Young Xehanort utilized power bestowed to him by his future Robed Figure incarnation. Master Xedrek (talk) 23:52, 10 March 2019 (UTC)

Young Xehanort was able to move even when time was stopped! He and Riku fought.
Xehanort: I said, hands off!
Riku: How can you be moving?
(Young Xehanort summons his Keyblade)
Mickey: Oh no. Are you...
(Xehanort's eyes glow and he looks upon them with fury, giving off a dark aura)
Xehanort: Begone.
— Did King Mickey’s time magic not work properly on Young Xehanort because Young Xehanort has the power to control time?
Nomura: Not Young Xehanort’s but rather Master Xehanort’s power. King Mickey was surprised at the time, seeing his Keyblade and noticing he harboured the power of Master Xehanort. That Keyblade was designed as the one Master Xehanort used in KHBBS combined with an hourglass, you see.

So, to clarify, YX is not simply borrowing MX's power. MX is still materializing, so he's not vulnerable to Stopza and his mind uses YX's body (which is also how YX had a Keyblade -- the Experience Record explicitly says that YX is from before his training, and so cannot wield a Keyblade on his own). Maybe "possession" is an inappropriate term, if that's what your stumbling block is, as MX isn't really stealing YX's body, just manifesting in it -- same as Roxas using Ventus's keyblade."We're werewolves, not swearwolves." Yeah, that passage is adjacent to the claim of possession, but it doesn’t claim possession. Especially after the events of Kingdom Hearts III, the interpretation leans heavily towards Young Xehanort acting on his own volition, utilizing the power given to him by his future self. He harboured the power of Master Xehanort, but he wasn’t controlled by him. Master Xehanort wouldn’t need to regardless, being as Younger Xehanort is Master Xehanort. Master Xedrek (talk) 17:52, 11 March 2019 (UTC)
Mickey is recognizing that the person he's facing is not Young Xehanort, though. There's the eye glow and aura to boot. Young Xehanort wouldn't have been able to do anything of his own volition, because as Nomura states he is not immune to the time stop. Master Xehanort is inhabiting Young Xehanort at this point in order to share his power -- that's why YX can use a Keyblade during this battle, as Nomura specifically states. We don't have to use possession if there's a better word that doesn't imply it being against YX's will, but it's basically a consensual possession."We're werewolves, not swearwolves." This is the first time King Mickey encounters Young Xehanort though. His surprise may stem from seeing a younger Xehanort, rather than an older Xehanort. Additionally, Young Xehanort already has access to the power granted to him by the Robed Figure (Ansem), so he can act of his own volition when using Master Xehanort’s borrowed power. The same goes for his use of the Keyblade, since this predates his training at Scala ad Caelum. However, neither of these instances, nor Nomura’s comments imply that Master Xehanort is occupying his past self’s body to act through him. This is the crux of the issue. It’s not merely that “possession” isn’t an appropriate term, but the idea of Master Xehanort directly controlling his younger self doesn’t follow. Sorry to push the issue, but this is a key distinction. Master Xedrek (talk) 04:05, 12 March 2019 (UTC)
"His surprise may stem from seeing a younger Xehanort, rather than an older Xehanort."
If that was the case, Nomura's response wouldn't make sense or be necessary. Nomura explicitly says that Mickey is surprised to see YX harboring MX's power, not simply recognizing that YX is Xehanort.
"so he can act of his own volition when using Master Xehanort’s borrowed power."
Nomura distinguishes between YX's use of the time portal power he was inducted into by the Robed Figure (a power which Nomura says he has outright) and the borrowing of MX's Keyblade.
"nor Nomura’s comments imply that Master Xehanort is occupying his past self’s body to act through him."
Nomura specifically states that the use of the YXblade is due to Xehanort. Nomura has made it clear, over and over, throughout the Ultimanias, even when discussing the cover art for Utada's newest disc, that this is equivalent to saying he is currently harboring MX's heart.
In any case, I found an even more explicit [1]:
"— When King Mickey stopped time, Young Xehanort began to move. Since he can control time, was he breaking the King’s spell?"
"Nomura: Young Xehanort wasn’t using his own power at that time. The King’s magic was broken because Master Xehanort was assimilating with Young Xehanort."
"— It was when the figures started appearing in the thrones."
"Nomura: Indeed. Time was stopped just as Master Xehanort was materializing. So he moved his consciousness to Young Xehanort’s body. Reacting to this, King Mickey exclaimed, “That’s impossible!” Young Xehanort was holding a Keyblade that he originally wasn’t able to handle thanks to Master Xehanort’s power. Though the keychain on it is different, the Keyblade he takes out is Master Xehanort’s."
"— I see. Young Xehanort himself is still in Destiny Islands and isn’t able to wield a Keyblade yet."
"Nomura: Right. Even when he appeared as an additional boss in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix, he wasn’t using a Keyblade."

Awesome, thank you. The link was broken initially, but I found the error. And I feel as long as this info is properly cited in the respective articles, it should clear up any confusion caused from material outside the games. Master Xedrek (talk) 21:27, 12 March 2019 (UTC)
