—Phantom Aqua

Phantom Aqua is an antagonist in Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A fragmentary passage-. She is a phantom version of Aqua encountered in the Realm of Darkness.

Story

When Aqua finds herself in the remnants of Dwarf Woodlands, she encounters a mysterious mirror akin to the Magic Mirror. Suddenly, her reflection comes to life and pulls her into the world within. Having been trapped, Aqua solves the mysteries of several other mirrors and battles her phantom three times. Once Phantom Aqua is destroyed, the real Aqua is able to proceed on her journey.

An even harder version of Phantom Aqua, who serves as the final boss of a secret mirror in New Game+, can can be fought as well.

Personality

Phantom Aqua, aside from being a physical reflection of Aqua, is also a physical reflection of her dark side. Compared to Aqua's more kind and optimistic personality, Phantom Aqua is rather cold, negative and stoic in her words and actions. She is shown to taunt Aqua during her time in The World Within by filling Aqua's own heart with darkness and laughing at her in battle.

As another reflection of this, Phantom Aqua speaks with a deeper voice in contrast to Aqua.

Abilities

Main article: Master's Defender

As a physical clone of Aqua, Phantom Aqua has all of the real Aqua's abilities and a copy of Master's Defender. Her attacks are much more powerful because of the darkness. In battle, Phantom Aqua is shown to be capable of teleportation, duplication (even having the clones attack simultaneously) and throwing dark ice barrages. Phantom Aqua can also use a rather powerful version of the Spellweaver Command Style.

Trivia

  • The song that plays when fighting against Phantom Aqua is a darker remix of Aqua's leitmotif.
