Tetsuya Nomura (野村 哲也 Nomura Tetsuya ) is a video game director, designer, artist, and writer, currently under the employ of Square Enix. His most notable achievements are the creation of select Final Fantasy games and the Kingdom Hearts series.
Early life
Nomura was born in Kōchi, Japan on October 8th, 1970. As a child, he enjoyed playing games, especially board games. These interests lead him to his future career, and the addition of game elements such as the Command Board. Later in his life, he graduated from a vocational school with a degree in Graphic Design.
Work at Square
Beginning in 1990, he was hired by Squaresoft as a debugger, specifically for Final Fantasy IV. Following the publishing of FFIV, he became an enemy designer for the upcoming game Final Fantasy V, and then as a designer for the minor characters appearing in Final Fantasy VI.
In 1995, upon the retiring of Yoshitaka Amano, Nomura was promoted to character designer for Final Fantasy VII. He remained character designer for the games Final Fantasy, Parasite Eve, and Brave Fencer Musashi. Following this promotion, he became character designer and story writer for several more Final Fantasy games and other, unrelated projects.
