Yeah. An anime without that twerp would hopefully keep the teens happy. Leave the current anime for the children.
If you ask me, only Pokémon Adventures (the popular manga) is faithful to the games. It puts all Pokémon on equal terms, especially in the later chapters. Pocket Monsters (the crude manga) is a horrible parody that makes even the most popular characters look like dorks. As for the anime, while it's more faithful to the games than Pocket Monsters, it does not (and will never) put all Pokémon on equal terms; only Pikachu and Meowth. Some episodes even try to make Pikachu sound more legendary than the Keyblade.
It's just too bad the anime's too well known (some people don't even know about the games). Many people, including my kid cousins, mistake Red, Saphire and Platinum for their anime counterpants, as well as think Brock, Misty, Cilan and Iris are major characters. Even I did when I was 10; when I first played Blue, I named Red after his anime counterpant (same with Blue), and expected Brock and Misty to join the party.
