We're bringing back the Feature Articles, I see. That's fine, but we need to make sure that what caused us to stop doing them in the first place doesn't happen again, namely everyone picking character articles over and over. Should we do what we're doing on the Featured Media page, nullifying two categories to keep the span of article subjects fresh? I did that as an experiment right after our first big revamp, shortly after we did away with Feature Articles, and it seems to have worked well. Much better than I thought it would, honestly.

Also, what kind of standards to we need to put back in place? Again, some articles were chosen for the subject than more for the fact they were well-written...we need to make sure everyone understands what makes feature articles stand out. I'd like to see some suggestions and ideas from you guys to see how we can make this fair and representative of our wiki's continuously improving quality.

EDIT CONFLICT: Well, me and Azul had a little chat about this before he went on his wikibreak, and we decided it would be fairer if the admins where to choose the featured article, rotating who does the chosing every month. Also, I thought a featured article was just a well laid out article that follows the manual of style.

Yeah, the admins handling the featured articles seems to be the best way to go. Azul left this month's article to me, but Ultima already picked one, so I guess I handle next month.

In my opinion (and this goes whether they are chosen by vote or appointment), featured articles should:

Have no spelling or grammar errors

Not violate any content policies, like the quote or trivia limits

For different topics:
- Be placed in the category "Category:Featured Articles", making them ineligible for re-featuredness.

Aaa! Thread necro!

After a brief misunderstanding about who was picking this month which resulted in the lateness...should we put some kind of "schedule" at least into place? GS did October's (and November's). Kryten, you want to go next? Does Bluer want a say as well?

I'm more concerned on the quality of the articles chosen to be Featured, kupo. I remember one of the original reasons that I chose to pull out Featured Articles from the main page, kupo, was because we lack articles that fit the criteria. I'm glad things have changed for the better participation-wise, at the least, kupo, but as pointed out, the general criteria have been noted out in the FA page, kupo - articles that follow the Manual of Style, have no redlinks and no maintenance templates. I leave it to the admins to create a schedule for the selection process, but please choose appropriately, kupo.

I saw another thread talking about the FA icon, kupo. The crown, IMMHO, fits the symbolism of Featured Articles, as one of the topmost quality work in a wiki, kupo, the "kings/queens" of wiki articles, a fine example of how articles are written, kupo. It's also an ingenious way to visually denote an article as one with a Featured status, kupo. To say it doesn't fit the template with all the Hearts is no heavy issue - suggest an icon that would fit the previous description then, kupo. Removing it entirely is out of the question, because there wasn't a valid reason, technical or otherwise, given to do so,

Hey, I've got an idea. Why don't we create a page for discussion. Then, every month, the admins each choose an article they think shoulb be featured. We all then discuss what one should be a featured article before the end of the month.

I say one of the admins just chooses the FA this month, preferably someone who has not done so already. And for next month, we change our plan of action. I say we start now for next months FA, so we are ot rushing on the 31st.

So I was thinking we should work on making some article-types feature-worthy so we can use them as examples of what a good article for that type is like. One type we haven't featured yet and I think needs some work is Keyblades; these seem to vary wildly in quality sometimes. Are there any we have that anyone thinks close of being feature-worthy, and if so, what do we need to do to make it better?

Sorry to butt in, but one of the issues with the Keyblade articles as a whole is that many of them lack basic information. I'm speaking specifically about the Keyblades introduced in Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. That's my main concern with Keyblade articles. Otherwise, KrytenKoro and NeutraVega put together a new infobox for the Keyblades that merges the card incarnations from Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories in with the stats from the main console games. We no longer will need an entirely seperate infobox just for the Keyblade's card, and I find that to be a helpful improvement to the Keyblade articles.

Yup, that 'twas awesome of them, indeed. I know we still lack a lot of 358/2 Days info, as well, but I was thinking our older Keyblade articles might be in need of some help as well. It would be nice to have at least one we can point to and say, "Do it like that!" or something like it. Examples are one of the best ways to teach, after all.

I cleaned up Jiminy Cricket a few weeks ago in anticipation of this, since his voice actor just died; I also archived its talk page's irrelevant topics. The article may need some filling in, though.

I do like the idea of the Jiminy Cricket article but I must say that I know I have put in a lot of work to the Puzzle page. That project took forever to finish.

The Jiminy Cricket article is a bit image-bare, but it still seems to be in good condition if we want to use it. Otherwise, I also did a quick cleanup on Ienzo, since he seems to have collected a large fanbase, and attracted a lot of pre-release attention due to his youthfulness.

Errrrr....... I think we'd go with Jiminy. ^_^ Don't know how I stumbled across this page but still...

I'm for Jiminy as well; I. First, I'm a bit reluctant to make a character in a game that hasn't had an English release yet a Featured Article. Perhaps Ienzo should be saved for September/October?

Second, take a look back at our existing Features. We have so far:

6 articles featuring Kingdom Hearts exclusive characters (Sora, Kairi, Riku, Naminé, Roxas, & Larxene).
2 articles featuring a Heartless enemy (Guard Armor and Shadow).
2 articles featuring a World (Traverse Town and Awakening).
2 articles focusing on gameplay elements (Sleight and Master Form).
1 article featuring a Disney-based character (White Rabbit).
1 article featuring a Final Fantasy-based character (Leon).
1 article featuring a Nobody enemy (Larxene again).
1 article featuring a mini-game (Puzzle).
1 article featuring a weapon (Oathkeeper).
1 article featuring the series as a whole.

We have plenty of KH original character articles already; some existing ones probably even need a bit of re-editing now that their stories and characters have further progressed since they were Featured. We need to fill out the other categories, save the last one, with many more Feature quality articles. Therefore, I'm all for the Jiminy this month.

In light of the data that BebopKate has posted above, I think we may want to start imposing a system similar to how we make certain images ineligible to be Featured Media. I'm quite fine with adopting the exact same system, actually. Agree, disagree?

I don't think we need to make it quite so formal as we do in Featured Media. One of the criteria of being a staff member is a good sense of judgment, and I think now that the point has been made, the staffers will do their best to balance things out.

The main problem with Featured Articles in the beginning is they amounted to little more than character popularity contests among the editors, in spite of the (very small) staff's best efforts to go otherwise, which is why Bluer finally put an end to them. Now that we've got more staff members and therefore more input, we should be able to better represent a larger cross-section of articles.

However, if we ever return to general community voting for Featured Articles, the ineligibility rule seems to work very well there. I originally did it as an experiment when we implemented general Featured Media voting, and it worked much better than I thought it would.

Right, the majority of character articles being featured are a result of past community voting. After all, more people are going to be familiar with Sora and Riku than, oh, Japan-exclusive Puzzles and Sleights.

On that note, anything to feature to fill in some of those lacking categories above?

Might I suggest, in light of the major enemy article clean-ups going on, one of the Nobodies? We only have one, and she's doing double-duty as a character...

Perhaps a World or a gameplay-based article after that that? That should get us through the summer, and then we can pick something special for the month of the English debut of Birth by Sleep.

You're not the only editor here, you know, dear DTN. ^_- I'm sure if we picked one, any number of good editors would be happy to lend a hand.

All of them are looking better already thanks to Project ENEMY. I personally kind of like the idea of focusing on either the Creeper because of the shifting forms, or the Berserker because of how hard to beat it can be. But if something looks like it's got better start or is more eligible, though, I say go for it.

Gummi Ship was indeed the selection for August, my only issue was finding an appropriate image of reasonable quality. Hopefully we will receive blueprint images of the Gummi Ships soon.

It has been a while since we have featured a world article, I think the last one was Traverse Town. I'm still not too sure about featuring a world from Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, due to our spoiler policy, but perhaps a world the former games would suffice, maybe even something that could tie into Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep without being spoilerific. Any suggestions?
