Keyblade-Blk.png Well, folks, the rumors are indeed true; the Keyblade War is coming to the Kingdom Hearts Wiki!

Just as Naminé's Drawoff was our year-end celebration event last year, it was decided by several staffers that we shall host a large-scale tournament this year. We're very excited to be hosting such an exciting event that gets the entire community involved, especially in such a dark time for all of Wikia. The theme of the event is the Keyblade War, the mysterious battle that took place before even Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep that has left many of us drooling for more details on the war. If you have questions about the upcoming tournament, ask here, and one of the staffers running this glorious event will be quick to answer your query.

Also, feel free to leave you comments about the tournament, woo!

Here's a quick FAQ guide to The Keyblade War:

Q: When does this tournament start?

A: The first two brackets shall be released for voting on Friday, October 15.

Q: Waaah! My favorite character wasn't included in the tournament!! Why not??

A: We tried to be as even and fair when selecting the 128 characters to be used in this tournament, though we may have missed one or two. The potential brackets should be released in a few days, be sure to suggest any changes to them before October 15, on which day they shall be finalized.

Q: Wait, what if the wiki moves away from Wikia? Would we have to stop the tournament?

A: It is incredibly unlikely that the tournament will cease. If the wiki does move, the tournament shall move with it and continue there.

Q: Where can I find the rules/brackets/flashy logo for The Keyblade War?

A: A project page has been made here, which contains the backstory, logo, and brackets (coming soon!). Keep up with this page for all of the tournament updates!

Thanks, Kingdom Hearts Wiki, for staying strong as a new year marches in, and as we face our greatest challenge yet: Wikia.

When was this decided, and more importantly, why? We already have the Mirage Arena, and the Joint Struggle is scheduled to take place in a few weeks. What gives?

Hell yeah! It's time that Kingdom Hearts Wiki finally had something like this!

KKD: Joint Struggle? I don't think that will ever be started.

this might be fun lol

Auror, you're sadly mistaken. The Joint Struggle's going to go on as planned, regardless of this. Now, what I want to know is why this was kept behind the curtain. Something as large-scale as this shouldn't be up to the admins alone. EDIT: 23:56, October 11, 2010 (UTC) Also, who was involved in deciding this?

It's a surprise, end-of the year event. Keyword: Surprise.

@Galexgan. The Mirage Arena isn't "exclusive". It isn't hard to get 145 edits given all the categories that count. If there wasn't a restriction, people would (and have been) make accounts solely to vote, which we don't want.

Basically, this is going to be a standard, 128-character tournament, reaching out to characters from all the areas of Kingdom Hearts. Each week, two brackets or so shall be released for voting, similar to the Mirage Arena. At the end of that week, each of the participants who received more votes than their opponent advances to the next round, and the losers are eliminated from a tournament. More information can be found on the project page.

Oh, it's been noted, and even recognized. 'Tis no problem, as the Mirage Arena is based on the FFWiki's DNC, which is based on their tourney system. These things are meant to be connected.

Plus, this is a much larger scale and more festive (?) than the Mirage Arena, with it being a year-end celebration and a 128-character tournament.

It just happens to be a coincidence; this was never intended to take the place of or distract the community from the Joint Struggle. However, this is the end of the year, so we have to do this now. The Keyblade War tournament and the Mirage Arena's first Joint Struggle are going to overlap, and that will be carried out.

Just BK and KK? I'm just disappointed that this idea wasn't talked about here and rather communally, because I'm sure the community would have supported either way and there'd be more ideas for bracket organizing. Now you get some users questioning it, rather than everyone fully in agreement.

I can't just help but think that a better idea could have been formed with the help of the whole community, as opposed to a select few staffers. This "Keyblade War" is just a large-scale Joint Struggle, and an attempt to further mirror the Final Fantasy Wiki. Sure, the Mirage Arena came from there as well, but we made it our own. I don't think anyone would've been opposed to another Namine's Drawoff, or perhaps a writing competition this time around. We don't need our own Magicite Madness, we need to think for ourselves once in a while. Namine's Drawoff was a hit, that pulled in tons of beyond eligible submissions. If it isn't broke, don't fix it.

I know what you guys will think: "But you are the one who proposed the MA (Joint Struggle included), so you are you doing this?" I'll tell you why: Because I care for this wiki.

Truth is... I liked the idea. It's nice to know the staff is willing to make the wiki a fun place.

And, I now shall give you guys an idea: Let us make a society bewteen the Mirage Arena and the Keyblade War.

The Keyblade War advertise the Mirage Arena and the Mirage Arena advertise the Keyblade War.

And everyone ends happy.

The KW will not cast a shadow over the MA because the users can vote on both. I mean, how hard is to click on the edit button?

I say, go for it guys. But be careful to not look like a big rip of the Magicite Madness.

@KKD: The Mirage Arena is a clone of the DNC with a rule that prevents most from voting.

I laugh if you believe you truly believe that this wiki "made it it's own." via that one rule.

For the discussion at hand, I approve. I would also like to warn this site of that a bunch of noobs will appear.

Yeah, I get that there isn't much different between them, maybe to you. But just because we borrowed one idea from the Final Fantasy Wiki (and the many other wikis who host things like the DNC and Mirage Arena) doesn't mean we have to model ourselves after them, and do everything that they do.

As for a relationship between the Mirage Arena and the Keyblade War, three words. Under. No. Circumstances. The Mirage Arena already has the Joint Struggle, and I don't see a point in tacking another (albeit larger) tournament onto it. I still fail to see any reason other than the fact that the FFWiki is hosting Magicite Madness for us to hold this tournament, especially with the recent conception and launch of the Mirage Arena. Is it truly necessary to shove another character competition down our throats already?

To conclude this longer-than-needed response, I wholeheartedly disapprove of this, and I don't support it at all.

If this discussion is going to go nowhere but complaining about an event that the wiki has stated previously that they would support, and also was put together with a tremendous amount of effort from the participating staffers, then I'll be happy to just delete this forum and the project page, and remove the entry from the Trinity Archives, and write it off as "Users complaining about the community-fun event that they have been complaining about the nonexistence of." Make up your mind; if you are going to complain the wiki is "no fun because it is work-based," then don't complain when we offer something like this to take place over two months for you to enjoy. It's pretty darn annoying, rude, and boasts a rather spoiled character.

Seriously, if all you guys are going to do is complain, let's just quit on this right now, so I can stop wasting my time trying to please everyone and spend my time on far more important things.

Don't throw it all away just because a handful of people like to complain about stuff. Message to complainers: If you don't like it, don't participate. Voila, everyone wins

I feel like if a little more thought had been put into it a better idea might've been thought of. I thought last year's Namine's draw-off was a wonderful even, and was hoping for something more along those lines this year.

We're not saying we don't want fun, we're saying that due to the fact that we already have the Mirage Arena, we need something else as the end of year celebration. Imagine it like this. A man walks into a store looking for a hat. He is already wearing one, and is looking to purchase another. The salesman in the store leads him to the hat section, and tries to sell him the exact hat he is wearing, only in a larger size. The man states that the only difference between the hats is size. The salesman pretends not to see it, and persists attempting to sell him the same hat, even though there are mant different hats to purchase. My point is, WE WANT A DIFFERENT HAT. Er, end-of-year celebration. And if you got the community involved in selecting the hat celebration, we probably would've been able to make a compromise. By keeping this to a select group of staffers, you've pretty much re-invented the wheel. Congratulations.

KKD, I understand that you think that Mirage Arena is truly the greatest and most amazing thing that has been recently introduced, but you are way over-complicating this. Both before and after the Mirage Arena's introduction, I had heard support for a tournament like this on the KHWiki. Furthermore, Joint Struggle is NOT a year-end celebration, the timing is purely coincidental, and therefore cannot be compared with The Keyblade War in terms of what is needed. Also, in terms of quality, Joint Struggle pairs subjects that are completely unrelated and random with little to no similarities, whereas all of TKW participants are characters. Joint Struggle is not superior to this tournament, in times of size or quality, in my honest opinion. That's just my two cents, since you were so bold to give yours.

You've also got to understand that you are pleading a case supported by two-three users, which is certainly not well-supported by the community against the majority that do support this. Though I cannot fully justify this, I think you may be feeling so negative toward The Keyblade War because that you worked so hard on the Mirage Arena, and we're thankful for that effort. However, you are imposing the same feeling of negativity on those who have put so much effort into organizing and arranging this tournament.

Bluerfn: While we could have been more community-oriented, the brackets are open for suggestions and revisions, and nearly all propositions shall be met with a change to the brackets, within reason. Also, this forum was created for the community to post any changes they wish to see made. While they were not able to participate in the initial planning, we do still allow for the entire community to have their say in how this tournament is run. Thank you for bringing this up, though, we will be sure to get the community more involved in next year's event.

To summarize it all for everyone, thanks for your opinions, but too much planning and effort has gone into this to cancel it less than three days before its scheduled beginning. The Keyblade War tournament is going to be hosted on the wiki, and it is going to start Friday. If you still have an issue(s) with this, you have the freedom to abstain from voting. Your comments have and will be taken into consideration for next year's event.

I can see why some people would be underwhelmed by this idea, people are also taking this way too seriously. This doesn't strike me as some grand conspiracy against the Mirage Arena. Like I said on the talk page, TKW is only going to last for a few months, while the MA will last much longer. There's no reason to uprise against something that is purely intended to be a fun surprise.

As for the staff alone being the ones to select it, again, I kind of get why (though I am not completely happy about it). It needed to be a surprise. Everyone keeps brining up Namine's draw-off, but I don't remember the whole community decidiing on that. Wasn't that a surprise too? (Seriously, was it? I can't remember.)

KKD, please stop being bitchy about the idea and just accept it. It's not a bad idea, and I'm going to participate in it. Yes, we have Joint Struggle, of which hasn't been setup at all lately. Now, we're mirroring Final Fantasy Wiki? Tfft, we're different in so many ways, but yet, we are alike, heck, we even have Final Fantasy characters in Kingdom Hearts. I'm hoping you actually realize it and accept this tournament idea.
