I believe somewhere around 2960, give or take. That doesn't mean all of them are active, though.

Well if you ever need help in your writing I can help, I'm currently under apprenticeship, and I've grown massively. Writers helping other writers is what makes them stronger. Take J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S Lewis for example.
