Vanitas
I haven't quite got the fine points down, like...when, or where... It just kinda kicks in whenever it wants to.

Template:InfoCharacter Vanitas (ヴァニタス Vanitasu ) is a mysterious character introduced in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, and seems to be one of the game's antagonists.
Appearance
Vanitas wears a black and red organic-looking bodysuit and a silver helmet covered with dark glass, hiding his face from view. The appearance's suit is quite similar to Riku's Dark Mode from Kingdom Hearts and Chain of Memories. He wields an unnamed Keyblade that is colored in red and black, also bearing two blue eyes that were previously unique to Riku's Soul Eater and Way to the Dawn.
Fighting Style
Vanitas is a skilled warrior with the Keyblade and with magic. He is seen casting thunder and blizzard magic, performing complicated acrobatics, and even rides the flying Keyblades that Master Xehanort sends out.
Trivia
- It is shown in the TGS trailer that Vanitas has the same battle-stance as Riku, further implying a connection.
- "Vanitas" is Latin for "vanity", "worthlessness", "nothingness", and "emptiness." This strongly connects him to Xemnas, whose Limit Break in 358/2 Days is called All-Vanity and he wields the attribute of Nothingness.
- Vanitas is shown to say "Show me your strength!" before battling Ventus in the TGS 2009 Trailer. This is a battle quote utilized by Sephiroth, ironically another man who turns to darkness and abandons his old allegiences in the Final Fantasy series, similar to how this Keyblade warrior falls to the dark and leaves the Keyblade masters of the Realm of Light.
- Tetsuya Nomura confirmed that Vanitas's identity will be revealed at the end of the story of Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep.
- After his first spoken line, Nomura made a joke saying that he was to voice Vanitas.
- One of the reasons Nomura chose the name Vanitas was because it sounded similar to Ventus.
