Items (アイテム Aitemu ) are a recurring mechanic in the Kingdom Hearts series. They are used in battle, in synthesis, and in story progression.
Battle items
Battle items (バトルアイテム Batoru Aitemu ) are consumable items that can be equipped to party members and used in the field. They typically restore a party member's HP or MP. In Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts II, Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A fragmentary passage-, and Kingdom Hearts III, equipped battle items can be used by selecting the Items command in the Command Menu. Starting from Kingdom Hearts II, equipped items can be set to shortcuts for easy access.
In the items menu, battle items are represented by the icon of a vial partially filled with a green liquid.

Item slots
In Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts II and Kingdom Hearts III, only a certain amount of battle items can be taken into combat at once, as each party member is restricted to the amount of item slots that they have. Each character begins with a certain amount of item slots, while Sora, Donald, and Goofy can gain more by progressing through the game.
Auto-Reload is a customization option available in Kingdom Hearts II and Kingdom Hearts III. The battle item in an item slot set to Auto-Reload is automatically restocked after each battle if it has been consumed. Auto-Reload can be toggled on or off for each item slot from the Items menu.
In Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A fragmentary passage-, Aqua has access to every item in the inventory through the item menu, circumventing the restrictions of item slots entirely.
Kingdom Hearts
All characters start the game with a certain number of item slots. Sora, Donald, and Goofy get more item slots by levelling up, with Sora's maximum number of slots depending on which Dream weapon he chooses at the Dive to the Heart. Item Cards
In Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories, battle items take the form of Item Cards. Instead of healing a character, Item Cards restore used Attack Cards and/or Magic Cards to their deck. Unlike most other card types, Item Cards cannot be reloaded once used.
Item panels
In Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, battle items take the form of item panels. The number of battle items that may be brought to a mission is limited by the Panel System, rather than item slots. Item panels are consumable, unlike all other panels.
Item commands
In Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, Kingdom Hearts Re:coded, and Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, battle items take the form of item commands, as part of the Deck Command combat system. Unlike other command types, item commands can be used a limited number of times, and they are equipped in limited quantities to a slot in the Command Deck; however, they do not have a cooldown period after each use. Item commands may restore a character's HP or other gauges, heal status effects, or activate Command Styles.
Camp items
Camp items (キャンプアイテム Kyanpu Aitemu ) are consumable items that must be used in the menu. They usually restore HP and MP to the entire party, or permanently raise the stat of one character. They are represented by the icon of a tent.

Materials
Materials are used as ingredients in the synthesis of various items, commands, and consumables. They are typically dropped by enemies, but can also be obtained from shops, chests, and event rewards.
Synthesis materials
Synthesis materials are used for Item Synthesis in Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts II, and Kingdom Hearts III; and for Command Meld in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep.
In Kingdom Hearts, synthesis materials are classed as key items and therefore represented by the purple orb icon.
In Kingdom Hearts II and Kingdom Hearts III, synthesis materials are represented by the icon of a cyan gem. They are always deposited from the stock inventory to the Synthesis Workshop whenever it is visited, and the collected materials can be viewed in the synthesis menu. Collecting synthesis materials results in the completion of Collector's Goals, which yields rewards and perks.
In Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, synthesis items are represented by the icon of a white orb.
Material panels
Material panels are used for panel synthesis in Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. They cannot be installed into the Panel System.
Flavors

Ingredients
Ingredients are used to cook cuisine at Le Grand Bistrot in Kingdom Hearts III. They are typically obtained by breaking props or purchasing from the Moogle Shop, but some can only be received from the Flantastic Seven. Ingredients are listed in the "Materials" tab of the "Items" menu, alongside synthesis materials, and are represented by the icon of a mushroom.
