May I ask that you cite the source (an Ultimania guide interview, etc) where Nomura allegedly claimed that the sharing of the Paopu Fruit has no romantic connotations attached to it. This has been brought up before and has been debunked as a baseless rumor. The Japanese VAs of both Riku and Kairi in the KHIII Ultimania Guide state that the scene was supposed to be romantic and according to their account, Nomura had even created an alternate scene without the Paopu sharing at the time of recording because he wasn't sure to what extent he was ready to display Sora and Kairi's feelings for one another before he settled on the Paopu scene. Here is a translation: https://phoenix-downer.tumblr.com/post/183166367788/kingdom-hearts-3-ultimania-interview-with-the

Hi

Hello

Thank you very much for your reply. I have read the translation and have the following to say:

It hints at a crush, but still not truly romantic feelings. I am also aware that there are two sharing scenes because Nomura wasn’t sure how to convey the feelings between them properly.

Miyano was also not involved in this scene and the translation gives more of a “teasing” vibe. "ohh I'm sure they were unaware but there's no wayyyyyy that heart-pounding scene wasn't romantic (lol)" is an alternate translation

The interview you linked is also pre KH3 and is the introduction to the Sora and Kairi VA stuff *we* use that *prompts* them to say that.

Besides I also wanted to point out that sharing a paopu fruit does not have to be with romantic intent. This is further proven by Kairi’s line “so we can stay connected, no matter what happens” and rather shows that she is scared of her friends, both Sora and Riku, drifting apart from her.

To the interview you have given me, the OP May know japanese but not how conversations work. And if you read through it, it has more personal comments and opinions and is not a 100% creditable source. I will be adding more to this but let me come back to you with some proper sources.

I also remind you again that according to the MOS, relationships aren’t part of someone’s personality.
