Heard about the new magazine hosted on the KHWiki and the Keyhole and want to get involved? Here at the Journalist Spot, you can share ideas and help us work towards the release of our next issue.

How It Works

To begin with, you must be a registered user on both Wikis with a minimum of either 300 total edits at the KHWiki (check here) or 100 total edits at the Keyhole (check here).

Once you have that, you can sign-up to do any of the below but remember that it is your responsibility to complete anything you have signed up to at least a week before release. Fortunately, there's plenty of help along the way! Once you've signed up to something, you can share ideas about your topic below in the "Discussion" section. Then, other users will feedback and develop your ideas by giving their own thoughts and opinions so that you have enough inspiration to write your entire piece. If you are doing an interview, debate battle or podcast, work with your partner(s) at an off-Wiki location, such as the IRC or by email.

After you have a first draft, email it to "kingdomheartswikibcrat@gmail.com" so that the Editor in Chief can review your work, fix any mistakes and give you any advice that you might need. Please refrain from posting any drafts on the Wiki to prevent ruining the surprise and satisfaction at the end result. Remember to update your status in the sign-up section and again, ensure that you email your work at least a week before release so that there is time to fix any potential issues.

The host for the Journalist Spot alternates every issue so you may need to visit The Keyhole if you want to get involved!

Submission Etiquettes

For the aid of the publisher, we now request everyone to observe the following etiquettes when you are submitting a piece of work:

Coding

Insert all the relevant coding in your email, including all images, font colors, formatting and links. Also insert the relevant parameters of your piece. For example, this is an example of a perfect riddle submission:

|gridriddle1=Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet
|gridriddle1answer=consectetur adipiscing elit
|gridriddle1author=Cicero

Two templates have been made to handle links: Template:KHWiki and Template:Keyhole. These works by using the following parameters (this uses the KHWiki template as an example but the Keyhole is the same):

{{KHWiki|LINK DESTINATION|DISPLAYED LINK (optional)|HEX CODE FOR FONT COLOR (optional)}}

Example:

{{KHWiki|Donald Duck|Donald|#00000}}

Never use basic [[ ]] links unless you know that both Wikis have the page that you're linking to!

Make sure all property names (e.g. "Kingdom Hearts") are in italics!

Content

Allude to both Wikis as much as possible with links and mentions, unless your section is specific to one Wiki.

Images

Check that any images you use are available on both wikis under the same name. If not, mention in your email what the different file names are. If your image needs to be uploaded, send it as an attachment so that the editor can upload it later.

Due Date

It is vital that you submit your work before at least a week before the next issue is set to be released so that a) the publisher has time to add it into the rest of the magazine and b) there is time to fix any issues that there may be.

Sign-Up

Found something you want to do? Sign-up under the bullet point you wish to do. If you have any questions, feel free to ask the Editor in Chief or the Deputy in Chief! Remember to submit your final work to the wiki's email for review!

TheFifteenthMember Yes. You're creepy. I can't say we'll miss you while you're gone, so it'd be best if you did go. We all win that way. TheFifteenthMember 15:13, 4 October 2015 (UTC)
Hey guys, a reminder that when you send in your stuff, make sure to:
  • Have all games in italics.
  • Have everything coded.
  • Attach any images to the email or mention their file names on the KHWiki/Keyhole.
  • Send your piece before the 23rd.

Doing that will really help me out a lot, which means the magazine can be released as punctual as possible. Thanks!

Here's another friendly reminder that The Keyhole has a strict no-video policy, so any videos you may need for your article, please use the {{video}} template, and not the <youtube></youtube> tags. Any video uploaded will be deleted. Thanks!

TheFifteenthMember I hope it's slow and painful; the elation I get from such kills is unmatched by anything, yeeeess... Just thinking about it makes me... oohhh... TheFifteenthMember 15:13, 4 October 2015 (UTC)
There's a couple of very small tweaks I'd like to put into the magazine (Template:Magazine 4.2 you could say). What do you guys think about:
  • Swapping the order of the Dive to Heart so the Intro To piece comes last? That just makes sense to me because I'm guessing it'll usually be longer than the tutorials.
  • And putting the coloured lineart in the black-and-white box? It might make the page look a little neater with the "Trip to Timeless River" title image encasing the entire box.

They're not essential changes, but I wonder what people will think of them.

Also, should we host the comments section on one wiki only and alternate each issue alongside the Journalist Spot? I find it frustrating having two separate places for comments because it makes me feel obliged to split my comment in two so I have something to write on each page. Thoughts?

I agree with those two above changes. Maybe we could host the comment page on the magazine's talk page? (whichever held the journalist spot for that magazine.)

I'm against hosting the comments section on one wiki, because the comments aren't just for the users who contribute to the magazine, but also for those who read it, and not everybody has an account on both wiki's.

I have an idea for something extra to add to the magazine. Currently, the Birthdays box has a lot of unused space, so maybe we can split it in two and add a "Speculation Topic", which would be a question that people can speculate about on the talk page. (To get more people to comment on the talk page.) It could be something like "What do you think will happen to the series after KH3?" or "Who do you think will be in the new Organization XIII?"

What do you think?

I like and approve of the idea that you've put forward, SH. A speculation box would fill some unused space whilst also perhaps generating some healthy discussion, which is a good thing...

TheFifteenthMember Ignoring how these caterpillars uttered what they're trying to say, I do agree. TheFifteenthMember 19:55, 8 October 2015 (UTC)
There's no rule against anon edits on the comments page. Also, if not everybody has an account on both wikis and they're forced to make one, it encourages cross-editing, which is a good thing.

I'm all for the Speculation Topic!

EDIT: Just another change I think we should make: I noticed that the sketchbook asks readers to send in their art, like the lineart and mailbag, but I don't think we should do that. The main sketchbook art should come from the Journalist Spot and the coloured lineart should focus readers. That's what I think anyway. Thoughts?

Why would readers be allowed to send in the colored lineart, but not their own art piece? I think it will make the section more varied.

TheFifteenthMember ...dango daikazoku~ TheFifteenthMember 15:44, 11 October 2015 (UTC)
In an actual magazine, all the content comes from the editors and there's only a couple of special sections that's designated to reader-contributed work so I wouldn't want a page to be possibly full of reader-contributed art. Remember, the only difference between a "reader" and an "editor" is the 150 or so edits needed to be legible for the Journalist Spot. What does everyone else think?

Summary:
  • Adding a "Speculation Topic" beneath the "Birthdays" area.

We still need consensus on:

  • Alternating between comments pages.
  • Not allowing readers below 150 edits submit Sketchbook art (only lineart).

Additionally, what are we doing on the podcast front? It's been difficult to release any of these since UC's departure so what should we do instead?
