TALK - I just obtained a potion! — 18:40, 22 April 2011 (EDT)
Well, there has been some talk about a new bot for the IRC. As seen here(Sorry, I forgot to log the other times -_-);

[12:55] <wolf5000> No it's going slow

[12:55] <wolf5000> It would go faster if no one shoots down the idea of another bot

[12:56] <wolf5000> But all who have seen the last bot hate bots.

[12:57] <wolf5000> But since there is an admin here i will ask.

[12:57] <wolf5000> KrytenKoro Can we have another irc bot?

[12:58] <Sove> It's more of a community decision

[12:58] <Sove> Not admin decision

[13:01] <KrytenKoro> I'm not in charge of bots, and don't know how to set them up

[13:01] <KrytenKoro> DTN would be the one for that

[13:03] <Sove> But it's still not only DTN's opinion that counts

And then later, while DTN, KK and Xion were all here...

[18:15] <Xion4ever> Fun? Yes. Amusing? Of course.

[18:15] <Xion4ever> Annoying? Heck yes. Abused/spammed? More than you know.

[18:17] <Keyblade0> [13:01] <KrytenKoro> I'm not in charge of bots, and don't know how to set them up

[18:17] <Keyblade0> [13:01] <KrytenKoro> DTN would be the one for that

[18:17] <Xion4ever> I ran across a page on how to set them up...I could probably find the link(s).

[18:17] <Xion4ever> Thing is: do we want/need one?

Should there be a new kitty- I mean bot to watch over the IRC?

Keyblade-Blk.png NO. No no no no no no no no no. Godawful idea.

The last bot was 100%, absolutely abused right from the start. karma was used to offend people, output features became tools of spam and personal attacking, roll was abused infinitely (no pun intended), and so forth. The IRC is doing quite well without an IRC bot--I quite like it at its current state of being a calmer, less "ZOMG GAIZ HAI SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM OLOL" somewhat more mature channel than it was before. I refuse to allow a bot that is unavoidably going to become a tool for abuse that does absolutely NOT benefit the channel in any way to be added to the channel.

Isa_bbs.png Maybe just for this social channel? I'd be cool with that.

Agreed with Croneh. At least put it on the Social channel, that way srsbusiness can be done srsly in the Noticeboard without someone goofing off with the bot.

FA icon.png I would agree with it going only on the social channel, but nowhere else.

A new bot should indeed be only on the social channel, but it shouldn't be like OrganizationXVMoogle. It should only have a few functions, mostly wiki-related. Now you are going to say "Inexistent, that defeats the purpose of even having a bot!". Well, yeah, exactly. My vote is Nay. KRCCFNF is tired of being STEPPED ON. 17:03, 23 April 2011 (EDT)

Pardon me, but if it were only wiki-related, you should then consider putting it on the noticeboard instead of the social channel. Therefore, I can't help but feel you're missing the point. TamboursNéant Ensemble ! 19:50, 23 April 2011 (EDT)

OPXion4EverIcon.png No. Never again. I cannot deny that the bot was fun and amusing at times. HOWEVER, our old bot caused more problems that greatly outweighed/numbered the positives. Anyone remember this discussion? Also, you notice how we had more IRC problems when the bot was around? Check out kingdomhearts.wikia forums if you don't believe me. Now I understand that the maturity level of an individual has a great role on how they act (wherever the place is- real life or internet life), but that is still no excuse for the problems that resulted from OrganizationXVMoogle. We had spamming, cursing, angry hate mail, users complaining constantly, etc...from almost every single user (regardless of age/popularity).

Another thing, channel operators were constantly being pushed to create new rules for the trivial problems the bot created. We even had to increase "police mode" just to keep some small grasp of control on the channel. Don't know about you guys, but I didn't enjoy being that strict with the rules or users. It was absolutely choas. We were being messaged multiple times every day that "So-and-so spammed at 13:04pm EST," and "The bot said I'm a jerk!" = Not a happy time. -_- If we get another bot, we will be forced to revert to a more strict run with the IRC.

Another thought of mine is why do you guys want another bot? Some of you who have said a bot would be nice are completely ignorant on the past problems we've had with bots on the IRC. (which isn't your fault) Others, were users who complained to me (and other users) that the bot was a horrid creature that should be removed. Finally, there are some of you who understand the past history, yet still want a bot...Why?

And before anyone posts about how the bot had a special feature that said "Let's work on this stub page, guys!" How many of us actually used/listened to it? NOTE: General "Oh, hey! It talked about a Wiki matter!" does not count. Besides, you can eaisly fund stub pages by looking through the categories. Any other feature the bot had that referred back to the Wiki can be found AT THE WIKI.

Finally, this is a Wiki, guys. We're here to provide the best public information available about a subject we all enjoy. In other words: You should be editing, not worrying about what the bot says when you type a code! We already have enough distractions with the Mirage Arena and trivial user talk conversations on talkpages- we don't need any more distractions!

FA icon.png I now reconsider my stance because of a few of the points Xion brought up. For my part, I disagree with the distractions bit. It's ultimately one's personal effort to edit the mainspace &c. with the distractions. But I do remember going on police mode and Xion was brought into a number of our discussions in the past. I therefore change my vote to no, unless we can be positive that people know how to use the bot properly.

Why did the Keyblade choose me? I have to know. TroisNyxÉtienne — 19:57, 23 April 2011 (EDT)

@TNE - my point was exactly to miss the point (because there was no point). Nobody does anything on noticeboard except for meetings. Heck, we even talk about more wiki- related things on the social channel than the noticeboard. KRCCFNF is tired of being STEPPED ON. 22:09, 23 April 2011 (EDT)

TALK -
That's because most of the people are being incredibly rude and not idling on the noticeboard like they're supposed to. Hell, if an admin is online, they should already be on the noticeboard. I can't tell you how many times I've asked for help on the noticeboard, only to be ignored for hours; that's why I end up going to social to look for aid.

In short: staff. Staff, it's your blood-forsaken duty to be on the noticeboard channel. If you have time to be online, you have time to be there for people who need help.

I'm always on noticeboard when I'm online, except for when I'm not on long enough to warrant IRC (like now). --Ag (Silver) - 47 107.8682 amu ~Crono Vsymbol1.png 01:21, 24 April 2011 (EDT)

What about if someone improves the bot? Like how the Inexistant said. Just a few commands. Or maybe it can be a "police bot" by warning then kicking then (if a user breaks more rules) ban that user for a few days/weeks/months/forever. If this can't be done, then I rest my case. SMG2_Starbit.pngKeyblade0 11t5t1g.png

DaysXionHooded.png
OPXion4EverIcon.png We actually had a few of these commands/ "police bot" mode you speak of, Keyblade. I clearly remember the "curse word log" the bot could report. (There were probably more of these commands, but I've forgotten them >_<). Problems with your idea of the bot kick/banning people: strict technicalities versus somewhat-loose emotional ties. (the latter part a lack for a better term). I would almost bet that more people here have at least once handled/viewed an important Wiki matter/discussion here with some emotional bias that has clouded their judgment/warped their opinion on the matter. If the bot did have the ability to kick/ban, any user found breaking rules "x" number of times would find themselves kick/banned. Allow me to go further: If for some reason a well-known user was banned from the channel (regardless of why they were banned), there would most definitely be a huge uproar on the IRC/Wiki. Why? It's a well-known user for Pete's sake!

If someone such as myself spammed the channel with messages like "Hey! Look! Listen! We need to finish this page on the Wiki!," the bot would report it in the log. If I continued such actions, the bot would kick and possibly even ban me. Here's the problem: Yes, I did break a rule through spamming- that is indisputable. However, I spammed to raise attention to a certain page on the Wiki. THERE is the controversy: breaking a rule, but for the greater good of something (in this case, the Wiki).

I hope that wasn't confusing. My point, in short is that people (including staff and Channel Ops) handle Wiki problems with some bias- due to our human nature, but we try to properly and maturely handle the problem as best we can-, and without that bias, there would [probably be] problems.
