Strategy
Attacks
- Whirlwind Break: After yelling an audible "Hup!" and twirling his Keyblades to his side, Roxas attacks in a wide cross-circle that releases rays of light and darkness to increase its range. Sora can either move closer and cast Reflect or use Guard to counter the technique, or use Dodge Roll or a jump to dodge it.
- Combo Charge: Roxas alternates between Keyblades as he attacks Sora in a basic ground combo and finishing by leaping backwards before charging forward at high speeds, sending Sora flying if hit. Sora can cast Reflect or use Guard to counter the technique's finisher, leaving Roxas open to attack.
- Aerial Dive: Used either in retaliation or to get closer to Sora. Roxas (jumps in the air and) performs a barrel roll while his Keyblades wheel around him vertically, possibly interrupting Sora mid-combo, bringing him to the ground. Sora can prevent the technique from triggering by avoiding use of his second finisher, or quickly casting Reflect once it is used.
- Duel Assault: A variation of the Samurai's Duel Stance. Roxas charges at Sora while saying "Gotcha!", as they both prepare to strike the other. If Roxas wins the duel, he slashes right through Sora at an incredible speed, dealing immense damage after a short delay. If Sora wins the duel, however, he will knock Roxas into the air and temporarily steal his Keyblades, adding increased power to all of his attacks.
- Spot Beam: Summons beams of light topped with the Nobody emblem, casting eight of them ahead of him, then dashing forward and sending the last where he just stood.
- Trap Beam: Summons six beams of light to close in on Sora.
- Beam Wall: Enhanced version of Spot Beam; Roxas uses three beams on each side during his forward dash.
- Return: Roxas surrounds Sora with beams of light as he reacquires his stolen Keyblades, before quickly turning around and slashing Sora where he stands. Sora can avoid this by using the "Reversal" Reaction Command.
- Keyblade Raid: Roxas flies about and around Sora, sends his Keyblades spinning toward him twice.
- Dark Combo: Roxas utilizes Keyblade Raid, then performs a flurry of slashes before sending out rays of dark energy around himself, drawing Sora in if near.
- Cyclone Break: Roxas summons six light beams around him as he charges Whirlwind Break, and sends the beams in all directions as he releases the attack. The technique can be dodged, or countered with Reflect.
- Combo Overcharge: Similar to Combo Charge, except with each swing of a Keyblade, a beam of light is sent at Sora, with his finisher releasing a wave of energy and leaving up to six light beams going both directions in his wake, meaning Sora can no longer jump to avoid the attack.
- Aerial Eclipse: Roxas performs Aerial Dive, and now summons three beams of light on each side to increase the attack's range.
- Twilight Combo: Similar to Dark Combo, except Roxas now uses Keyblade Raid five times and summons two light beams with each attack.
- Magic Hour: Roxas's Limit Break. Roxas dashes to the center of the battlefield and summons light beams, which act as a sort of shield, as he slowly rises into the air, glowing with energy, then releases light to summon a field similar to the one in which Sora opens the Gates. He'll shout "Come on!" as he summons a pair of Light Orbs to his side, before twirling both of his Keyblades to send out homing projectiles at Sora from said orbs. This technique can be dodged by simply running along the edges of the field.
Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix
Dark City
The battle will always begin with Sora directly in his attack range. Just as the battle commences, Roxas will immediately use a variation of Whirlwind Break that covers a large portion of the field. He will then run behind Sora and use either Aerial Dive, Whirlwind Break, or Combo Charge. Roxas will use Aerial Dive if Sora attacks him enough or hits him with Explosion. Roxas may use Duel Assault every now and again, and should Sora win, will start using Spot Beams and Trap Beams relentlessly until he gets the chance to close in and use Return. Depending on the number of hits in the combo and if Roxas was first hit with Reflect, he will counter Sora's first combo finisher instead.
After a quarter of his health is gone, Roxas gets even more aggressive. Duel Assault is used less frequently, and he will also begin to use Keyblade Raid in placement of Aerial Dive, along with Dark Combo. Roxas replaces Whirlwind Break, Aerial Dive, and Combo Charge with Cyclone Break, Aerial Eclipse, and Combo Overcharge respectively.
Once he is down to 40% of his HP, Roxas will use "Magic Hour" frequently, as well as Twilight Combo to replace Dark Combo. Light beams will be launched simply from dashing around.
Data Rematch
In the data rematch, use Dodge Roll, Reflect, Guard and melee attacks—Roxas will use his light shields more often. The projectiles in Magic Hour now fly at faster speeds, requiring Sora to use Glide. His health has also greatly increased, making the fight more dangerous. The best strategy is to activate (and win) his Duel Assault whenever possible to steal his Keyblades hit Roxas continuously. As long as Sora heals when necessary, the battle.
