Anyone else feel that Re:Coded is the most disappointing Kingdom Hearts game so far? Not only is it on the DS (which is a system that's behind the times anyway) but it just pales in comparison to the quality of other KH games. Even though Days was on the DS, it had a spectacular story and fun gameplay, but Re: Coded...... is pretty boring.
It seems that they have strayed from the "formula" that made Kingdom Hearts great by adding all of these crazy gameplay modes like turn-based fighting, side-scrolling missions, and "Sonic" style running missions. Also, the quality of the game seems to be far less than previous titles. The "Talking Sprite Speech-bubble" cut-scenes instead of the standard in-game Speech-bubble cut-scenes really annoyed me. Days had hundreds of in-game cut-scenes, why couldn't they do that for Re: Coded?
Now there were some parts that were great, but those best parts were during the full-rendered cut-scenes, which means, once you have theater mode, you never need to play through the boring gameplay again.
This really is the only Kingdom Hearts game I have been truly unhappy with. BBS, KH1, Re:COM, Days, and KH2 are all fantastic games, but Re: Coded will end up being nothing but story filler until KH3D.

I absolutely disagree with you. Days was, far and away, the absolute worst waste of memory that SE has produced. Re:coded, on the other hand, has an interesting leveling system, unique bosses (gameplay-wise), and constantly changing but progressing gameplay.
Also, Re:coded has Mobile, which I love more than anything else but KH1.

Days was alright. The story would have been pretty good if it had come before KHII and we could have put the pieces together ourselves. In fact it was a really good story to me up until the completely pointless "it was all a dream"-esque deus es machina ending. Nomura wrote himself into a corner and had to explain why Xion wasn't mentioned and it just left me wondering why I bothered, even if Xion's death scene was well done.
I can't speak for coded since I don't have it, but I don't intend to get it. I'm becoming increasingly frustrated with the way they keep recycling worlds and storylines in Kingdom Hearts. In one place its memories, here it's data, it's lazy to be honest. From the concept, coded bores me, since it doesn't really seem to add anything to the series' story except Maleficent possibly dying (no she didn't) and Xehanort being revived, which, since it was a secret ending, could have been tacked onto any game in the series.
And I don't get the hate for FFXIII. It doesn't look bad (and I mean "look" as in the overall feel, not just in a graphical sense; the graphics don't look to have improved all that much from FFXII, which were spectacular). The story seems alright, except for Hope, the Tidus/Vaan character Nomura feels compelled to add to every game. I don't have any of the systems its on, so I can't know for sure.

I'm thinking I'll probably rent Re:coded and decide afterwards whether I want it. I'm also pretty annoyed with the recycling, but I figure I can just mute it and hum all the background music myself. That'll make it easier to tolerate. --Neumannz, The Dark Falcon 06:55, January 18, 2011 (UTC)

I think that Re:coded's a great game. Comparing it to Days, the graphic is better, and the gameplay is also better. Days's mission system is boring me, it's like being repetitive, both the mission's objective, and the number of times we visited a world. And for those who doesn't have PSP and thus can't play BbS, Re:coded's gameplay isn't that much far from BbS's so that's a plus. Sure the worlds are getting boring (especially Agrabah and OC) but at least we can visit places like Destiny's Islands and Wonderland, which rarely appears as a playable world in KH series. And the worlds are actually near the same as the original KH so, if you haven't played the original KH in a long time, it'll be a good feeling to play the worlds on Re:coded. As for FFXIII... The disappointing thing is that we have to wait until chapter 10 to be given the freedom of playing the game, the early chapters are like intro chapters and they're quite boring actually, since the battles can be won by just choosing the Auto-Battle command... not much of a strategical gaming there...

I agree with 17m. Re:coded is a good addition to the series. The graphics and leveling system have improved from Days (the Stat Matrix doesn't feel like a puzzle), and it's fun to see the journal's secrets revealed piece by piece. The conversion system for commands is irritating however. I don't want to waste commands that I only have one of, but if I don't, other commands won't level up. They should have maintained the melding system from BBS, but added the test conversion feature. The Avatar Menu is what really bugs me (pun not intended). I'd be fine with it if they like, gave you a floor for every ten minutes of gameplay. But no, you have to either find someone who has the game (a challenging task in my case), or wait for about 15 minutes on the tag screen. As in, just waiting. I also think that it was a bad idea to only allow the redemption of SP after completing all of your floors. What happens when you get a large amount of floors? They should have put SP redemption points at every five floors or so, for the sake of saving time. Anyways, it's a decent game, better than Days, but it certainly could have used improvements. 71.92.202.190 05:10, January 26, 2011 (UTC)

ReCoded is actually pretty good. Like everyone said, it seems to be a major improvement from Days and it doesn't seem like all of the unique elements weren't put in without regard to the previous like in the origninal Coded. And I love the Stat Matrix (only now I have to give up some chips for trophy chips, and I have already replaced all of my Blank Chips) and I relished in the return of the Deck Commands, although the System Memory thing sure was irritating (I can't even use all eight of my slots). The Avatar Menu is cool, but I share the same qualms about the inconviencies it holds, like the fact that most of the easy trophies can't be obtained unless you run into one of the two other people in your town who like Kingdom Hearts, let alone are playing the game at the same time in an even shorter distance than the PSP. But I like the more usful feature of the bottom screen (I did like Days idea of watching two cutscenes at once though) and Ultima Weapon is B.A., all I really can complain about is the confined nature of Kingdom Hearts's promising new realm of multi-player.

I have yet to play a Kingdom Hearts game that I thought was a waste of time. I haven't played Re:coded yet, so I can't really speak for that one, but as for Days, I found the story to be just all-out awesome and the leveling-up system to be kind of creative, and if nothing else, it gets 19 extra awesome points for each character you could play as in Mission Mode, I mean c'mon people, where else will you get to play as Organization XIII :)

From my point of view every Nintendo game of the series lacks variety in level design, you just revist old areas again and again, which is even worse because all worlds were already vistited in the main games in the first place (with some minor exceptions). CoM has the random rooms, Days it's freaking 93 missions and Re:coded the system areas with are fun at first but get stale after you going through the 13 floors in Hollow Bastion again and again, just to level up or to get the last rewards.
Storywise I'd liked Re:coded much better than Days. Firstly because the story isn't just retold more simplier than it was in KH1 (like it was done in CoM) even if the outcome is still the same, secondly because it's crisp and clear (Days is just so boooooriiiiiiing until Day 300 or so) and thirdly because it doesn't introduce new useless characters that takes away screen time from already existinging but not yet fully fleshed out characters.
Gameplaywise Re:coded is really neat, although I liked the Command Meld in BBS better too (it's more logical) and some commands could be more unique than just fire/blizzard/thunder/aero variations.
Don't get me started on Avatar Menu though (we still have to write a good article on that matter), because it really takes a long, long time to make progress in here without a Wii or another NDS around. But I guess I should be glad, that's possible to get all the content of the game nonetheless.
So yeah, Re:coded is actually quite good, expecially for an enhanced mobile port I would have never played otherwise.
