*We definitely run the risk of no one playing, just like with the Mirage Arena. However, the idea is to, just like your plan with the trivia, we were planning on opening up the contest to everyone. And we'd promote the tournament on Facebook and Twitter. The only reason we're requiring an account is to keep track of who is voting. Definitely, we'll need to suspend the Mirage Arena for a time if we do the Tournament.
*Certainly spreading it over 13 weeks is a bit of a stretch. That's part of the reason why it's fragmented into multiple brackets that can run simultaneously or at different times, and this first month is more of a loose prep/nominations thing. I haven't figured out all the timing yet, but for sure there are some brackets that are I can span over just one month (Best Female/Male Protagonists) and some that stretch out to two months (Best Heartless, Best Dream Eater).
*True, there isn't a lot of engagement involved. At least not inherently. My hope is that, with opening it up to more than just the regular us-es, we can have more people who engage in the discussion sections, meaning we have more debate and engagement on why one subject is better than the other and more effort to swing votes during "battles".
I really like your idea of a trivia contest, too, though. The only issue is, like you said, the prizes. I remember early on when I got here, there was a trivia contest on the wiki for ''Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX''. The prize, as I recall, was an art commission, and I don't think there were many entries. And I ''still'' didn't win.... The only work-around I've come up with is a sort of on-site award of sorts for stuff like Most Influential or Most Voter or something like that, kinda like what I've noticed KHInsider does on their forums. Small little image to start decorating a userpage or something. So far, that's the only thing I've come up with.
Another inherent issue with both ideas is that both encourage more people on the articles. Mass reading and editing is what we're envisioning. Which means constant checking of the IRC to make sure everything's still under control. Eagle-eye reviewing to make sure, on the one hand with the tournament, that the edits are quality and don't ruin the article, and on the other hand with the trivia, like you said, so no one is changing the pages to fit their answers. It'll be a ''lot'' of work on the part of those of us who actually know what goes on on-site. It's not that I don't want all these people here, but rather a forewarning that we'll need to be vigilant.
We could, of course, do both. Have one of the events here and the other on The Keyhole. It doesn't solve the prize issue, though, but, the more excuses to get people on-site, the better in my opinion.}} |
