The group is puzzled as to how they can be in Traverse Town, yet still in Castle Oblivion. Reminiscing of their previous time spent here, the group begins exploring the town. Suddenly, the group is ambushed by a group of Shadows. The trio struggle against the Heartless, as they have forgotten their previous fighting abilities. Leon soon arrives, easily defeating the Heartless. Sora warmly greets Leon, only to learn Leon has no recollection of the group. Afterwords everyone splits up to help Sora search for Riku and the King. Unable to find either of the two, Sora bids farewell to Leon and the others. Just before Sora leaves, Aerith warns Sora of his memories, claiming he must beware of the illusions that could distract him from what is most important.

The figure tells Sora that everything he just experienced was nothing more than an illusion created from his memories. The figure claims that in order to find what is most precious, Sora must pursue his hidden memory. The figure prepares to attack the group, only to be interrupted by another cloaked [[Axel|figure]]. This new figure insists that he will test Sora. The previous figure consents, tossing a card to Axel before leaving. The remaining figure introduces himself as Axel, summoning his chakrams.
