Heartless: Difference between revisions

While Ventus was Master Xehanort's apprentice, Xehanort had summoned several [[Neoshadow]]s in order to force the boy to embrace his darkness, but Ventus refused and was nearly destroyed by the Heartless instead.

Much later on, as Aqua wanders the [[Realm of Darkness]] following her battle with [[Terra-Xehanort]], she encounters a pack of [[Darkside]]s. Although she immediately summons [[Master Keeper]], she decides that fighting would be useless, and lets the Darksides come at her. However, both the [[Earthshaker]] and [[Wayward Wind]] come to her rescue, a last symbol of hope from her old friends Terra and Ventus, and destroy the Darksides. Her spirit returning, and in hopes of returning to her home, Aqua presses on through the Realm of Darkness, along the way encountering many Pureblood Heartless, including [[Shadow]]s, [[Neoshadow]]s and [[Darkball]]s. During this time, she is stalked and attacked by a [[Unnamed Heartless|massive, unknown Heartless]], engaging it in combat and emerging victorious after a strenuous battle.

===Between ''Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep'' and ''Kingdom Hearts''===

[[Ansem the Wise]] suspected that his research was endangering the citizens of [[Radiant Garden]], so he ordered his apprentices to cease the experiments on the hearts immediately. However, his foremost apprentice, Xehanort, continued the experiments. He also convinced Ansem's other apprentices, [[Braig]], [[Dilan]], [[Even]], [[Aeleus]], and [[Ienzo]], to help him in his experiments on the heart, but eventually, the experiments drove them mad, and they descended to Darkness. Afterward, they revolted against their teacher, Ansem, and banished him to the Realm of Nothingness, where he was driven by revenge and became the mastermind, DiZ.  

The Heartless first appear inside [[Sora]]'s [[Dive to the Heart]] as preparation for the coming invasion of [[Destiny Islands]]. When Riku opens the door to the heart of the world, the Heartless invade en masse, and succeed in devouring the islands, despite Sora's attempts to stop them. After he escapes, he meets [[Leon]] and [[Yuffie]], who explain to him what the Heartless are, what creates them and what they hunger for, the Darkness in the heart of every living being. This leads Sora to fight the Heartless alongside [[Donald Duck]] and [[Goofy]], in an effort to save the worlds.  

Sora eventually learns that the Heartless are being used by both [[Maleficent]] and [[Ansem, Seeker of Darkness|Ansem]] (the lead Heartless, using Riku's body) to capture the Seven Princesses of Heart and open the door to Kingdom Hearts, so that they can rule over all worlds. However, Ansem uses the [[Keyblade of People's Hearts]] created in the process to drown Maleficent in her own darkness and transform her into her dragon state. After she is destroyed by Sora, Ansem reveals that, like the other villains, she was being used by the Heartless.

Ansem then explains to Sora that Kairi's heart had been hiding within Sora the entire time, and that Sora must release it in order to save Kairi, though it would also complete the Keyblade of People's Hearts and allow Ansem to open the door to Kingdom Hearts. Although Sora attacks Ansem and seizes the Keyblade, he decides to use it on himself to release Kairi's heart, transforming him into a Shadow Heartless in the process. After regaining his form from Kairi's own light, Sora goes to End of the World to save Riku and the rest of the worlds from Ansem.  

[[Roxas]] was sent by [[Xemnas]], Xehanort's [[Nobody]], to work with other Organization members and release the hearts of every Heartless that he encounters. Since only Emblem Heartless release hearts, the Organization only seeks to slay their kind; Pureblood Heartless are seen only as obstacles. This also explains when you destroy a Pureblood heartless, such as a Shadow, on a 'collect hearts' mission, they do not add to your mission gauge.

After Sora awakens in [[Twilight Town]], he travels to the [[Mysterious Tower]], where he meets [[Pete]], Maleficent's second in command, who is working to try and make an army of Heartless for Maleficent to use. After a skirmish with a couple of Heartless, Sora realizes that the worlds are still in danger. He meets with the Tower's master, [[Yen Sid]], who explains Sora's new mission to him, though the Heartless have returned, they are not the main enemy this time, the Nobodies were. In almost every world, the Heartless appear alongside Pete, Maleficent, and one of the Disney villains. It was later revealed by [[Axel]] during a war on Hollow Bastion that Organization XIII was using Sora to release the hearts of every Heartless he destroyed so that the Organization could take them and create their own Kingdom Hearts.

After knowing this, Sora heads for the Organization's base, [[The World That Never Was]], to try and destroy their Kingdom Hearts. After [[Xemnas]]'s artificial Kingdom Hearts was damaged by [[Ansem the Wise]], Hearts rained down upon the World That Never Was and turned into a massive army of Shadow Heartless. They stormed the Castle That Never Was, seeking out whatever they could to eat. Maleficent and Pete fought off the Heartless while Sora, Kairi, Riku, and the others went on to defeat Xemnas.
