In Kingdom Hearts II, the Dark Depths area of Hollow Bastion becomes the name of an area in Radiant Garden which contains a large cliff overlooking the remains of Maleficent's old castle. The Dark Depths can be reached if one proceeds through the Great Maw, and it is also where the player has the option to face Sephiroth in a boss battle. When Cloud faces Sephiroth, their battle also takes place in this area.

The mention of Terra-Xehanort tryig to 'release his darkness by throwing himself into the dark realm' (or whatever the exact line was) conflicts with other explanations of that scene on this site. If I'm not mistaken, Terra-Xehanort attempted to lock Terra's influence out of his heart, but failed when he locked his own (Master Xehanort's) influence as well.
