| A relatively unknown [[Heartless]], the Illuminator is the first boss of [[Port Royal]]. The gecko-like Heartless is summoned by Pete to aid [[Captain Barbossa]] with its powers to shroud the room in darkness. The darkness makes Barbossa invincible, and it makes things almost impossible to see. However, by searching for the Illuminator's glowing eyes, [[Sora]] destroys the Heartless, thereby allowing him to attack Barbossa until another Illuminator appears at Pete's call.

| The Illuminator bears a resemblance to another reptilian Heartless from ''[[Kingdom Hearts]]'', the [[Stealth Sneak]]. It has also been compared to Jack, Barbossa's pet monkey present in the Pirates of the Caribbean films. While the Illuminator does not attack and can only assist Barbossa, it imposes a visual handicap like the Stealth Sneak. The Illuminator was an extremely weak opponent.
