I'm not sure how to do this, but this article's name should be changed to Fateful Encounter, which is the properly translated name. KeybladeWarriorNick

I'm gong to assume we should move this? OtOcon^_- 02:54, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

No. I think Two Across sounds cooler. And untill we get it offically that its "Fateful Encounter," It stays as Two Across. Like the Areith/ies/whatever debate, except smaller.

Would it be appropriate to make a remark on how this Keyblade resembles Ven's, or is that is that too speculative? Pilaman 00:47, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

Honestly, "Two Across" is a hideous translation. The name means something akin to "Two people which meet fortuitously". It's meant to refer to the crossing of Sora and Riku's memories, the Oathkeeper and Oblivion, into the Keyblade.

めぐりあう二人:

  • 巡り会う(P); 巡り合う; 巡り逢う(oK) 【めぐりあう】 (v5u) to meet fortuitously (poet); to meet by chance; to happen across
  • 二人 【ふたり】 (n) two persons; two people; pair; couple;

Fateful is not correct either, as the implication is that this is completely random and lucky. "Encounter" has that element of luck, and is one of the closest synonyms.

I think "Couple's Encounter" or "Encountering Two".

I'd choose "Encountering Two", it's slightly more grammatically correct.

If this translation doesn't satisfy anyone, I can get further confirmation from a Japanese professor I know.

The problem with that is that the literal translation is "The two people who meet by chance/luckily". The subject of the name is the two people, not the meeting. Of course, the problem with that is to then simplify it to fit into the 2/3 word naming scheme the games use.

I know this may seem a bit out of place of what we are currently talking about, but I have a question about this Keyblade's ability: Once you get the Final Form, is it still useful in any way? If so, how?

Also, if we're trying to come up with a new name for Two Across (that's what it looks like you're doing, anyway), how about Twilit Crossing? I mean, it's a mix of Light & Dark (hence the ability), as it is somewhat of a mix of Oathkeeper and Oblivion, and crossing... It fits with translation, I think. Maybe not the crossing part, but I think twilit fits. What do you guys think?

TALK -
I suppose if you actually like Anti Form, it could be considered useful, but other than that, it's just to go with Bond of Flame.

And we're not considering a new name for Two Across - we're trying to agree on a better translation. "Twilit Corssing" is just completely, totally different from the meaning of the Japanese name, and would not work.

Oooh, I see... I'm no good at foreign languages, so I don't have any suggestions, then. I'll tell you if I come up with anything fitting, then.

Sorry about that.

I have no idea how old this disscussion is... but considering Two Across is a Keyblade that appears in Days, and considering Days is gonna have an English version. Why don't we wait till the English version comes out and we change it to whatever it's called there?
Symbol Character - Mickey.png
FA icon.png My thoughts exactly. Unbirth was thinking the same thing too. We'll wait and then we'll move the page accordingly.

EDIT : Speaking about Unbirth, he got his hands on the Japanese version of Days and he found Two Across there. Now, if anyone else has found Two Across, please give us the Days stats. Or, ping him - I'll be away starting tomorrow.

I find that name kind of weird, where does this translation come from ? (I ask this because I used Two Across on the french wiki too).

I thought the Keyblade was called "Two Across". Marexl 16:23, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

There is no official translation; the Keyblade first appeared in KH2 Final Mix which isn't in English. There won't be one until 358/2 Days comes out in English. "Serendipitous Pair" is a fan translation, but it's much, much more accurate than "Two Across," an appallingly bad translation some fan came up with. It apparently used this logic:
  • Meguriau Futari = meguriau ("to come across") + futari ("two people")
I'm sure you can see how the conclusion "Two Across" makes no sense given the above.—Urutapu 03:21, 8 August 2009 (UTC)
For fun, extra info, the editor who came up with the "Two Across" name somehow managed to translate the English-named Winner's Proof as "13 Mushroom".Glorious CHAOS! 03:51, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

While I agree that this is a much better translation, I have to point out that this keyblade will be getting an offical English translation. And I also wanna point out that "meguriau" was translated at "Destiny" In Roxas's title, so I wouldn't be all that surprized if it ended up as "Destined Pair" of "Pair of Destiny" or something to that effect

Why the Hate?

I was just passing through to check why the name changed and some of the comments about the fan translations were just rude. To call out that a translation from a language you don't speak fluently as horrible is kinda messed. Also one last thing to say is it's a wiki if you don't like the translation wait for a official release or put in a suggestion, don't hate.

Just who do you think you are, chastising us for changing a name? No one is asking you for your opinion, and to say the least, I think you are the one who is being rude.
"To call out that a translation from a language you don't speak fluently as horrible is kinda messed." This is ridiculous logic. I don't make tables, but an ugly table with a missing leg is still an ugly table with a missing leg. Interobangu 01:49, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

TALK -
SSC is a helpful editor, not an idiot, JD, so please don't act like that at him. However, SSC, the translation was horrible - it was not even based on the actual words, and seemed to be random picking of words from a dictionary. Remember, the editor who named it "Two Across" is the same guy who named the Winner's Proof "13 Mushroom", when it already was in English (katakana-ized).

Also, while I probably let it go on much longer than I should have, it is important to correct these things even before the dub, because there is good evidence that dubbers read wikipedia and wikia when translating. For example, when Devil May Cry 4 was released in America, the official site's summary of the series was copied straight from wikia. Then, there's the fact that the internet forums quickly spread what we put here - when I first translated Xemnas's title as "Guide to the Interstice" (an accurate translation, but not in tune with the traditional translation of the terms already used in the series), I found it on multiple forums only a day later. Hopefully, the dubbing team is the same guys who did previous games, so they'll remember that "Superior" was part of his title from CoM, and will correctly dub it as "Superior of the In-Between". If they're not, then there's a high chance that they'll base it on the terms they find on the Internet (we are free labor, after all), and I will have f'd things up.

To be fair, I didn't call SSC an idiot. I was referring to the anon who was upset just because we changed the name of Two Across to Serendipitous Pair.

For wiki editors you guys misquoted me a lot(but its a talk page so meh). Except for KrytenKoro i respect that guy, hes awesome. I was talking more about how you jumped on someone who doesn't speak Japanese fluently for mistranslating something. Also I never criticized the name change, just the hatred around the guy who came up with Two Across. I'm going to go back to my own Wiki now, you guys seem to dislike anyone outside of the usual group and reject there input. I'm not taking that as rule of thumb for your community here, just how I fell about how my comment was reacted to. It reminds me of this time at band camp. We were roasting marsh mellows and we heard a sound. My friend was all "omg it's a troll dun feed himz" and my mom got scared and said you're moving with your auntie and uncle in bel-air. I whistled for a cab and when it came near the license plate said fresh and had a dice in the mirror. If anything I could say that this cab was rare but, I thought now forget it, yo home to bel-air. I pulled up to a house about seven or eight and I yelled to the cabby yo, home smell you later. Looked at my kingdom I was finally there, to settle my throne as the prince of bel-air. I fell that story really sums up my time here.

Serendipitous Pair/Two/Duo

Given that the most literal translation is "The Two which Fortuitously Come Together", I think "Two Become One" is actually a really good translation - or if it's considered to not be a synonym, I'd like to suggest "Two Come Together" for the closest and most accurate translation. Is that okay?Glorious CHAOS! 01:12, September 29, 2009 (UTC)

Agreed, not even fortuitously is an appropriate synonym for serendipitous. I think that we'll just need Urutapu or SSC to give us the best Japanese-speaker's input. --DoorToNothing 01:15, September 29, 2009 (UTC)

FA icon.png I somehow think otherwise. They always say "Two become one" during marriages, where two people join in and become one flesh. Here, Sora and Roxas are joining in once again as one body... Sora's body, in this case. I'd say they had a good reason for naming it "Two Become One", and usually the English translations are a lot better than most other versions.
