Of these, only Riku, Naminé and DiZ have been responsible for summoning the portals, and it has been suggested that one must have a strong heart to resist the overwhelming darkness which threatens the user of dark powers. If you don't have a strong heart, you need a vessel to protect yourself from losing your heart or being drained of your own life energy.
