Gula is given a Keyblade forged from his own heart by the Master of Masters, who takes Gula, Aced, Ava, Invi, Ira, and Luxu as his apprentices. Gula eventually achieves the rank of Keyblade Master alongside each of his fellow apprentices.fact<!--Source?-->

Shortly thereafter, the Master gives a copy of the Book of Prophecies to Gula and grants him leadership over the Leopardus Union as its Foreteller. As Gula and the other Foretellers read their copies of the Book of Prophecies, they are shocked by the final entry, which details an event known as the Keyblade War, during which light would expire and the world would reach its end.

Sometime after Luxu mysteriously disappeared to fulfill his role assigned to him by the Master, the Master meets with Gula alone in the Foretellers' Chamber. The Master gives Gula the Lost Page from his copy of the Book of Prophecies and informs him that the Lost Page mentions a traitor among them, and it is Gula's role to discern who the traitor is and stop them. From this, Gula deduces that the Master had given each of his apprentices different roles because whoever diverts from their role could be identified as the traitor. Although disappointed with the lack of impact such a revelation has on Gula, the Master confirms Gula's logic nonetheless and directs him to trust no one but himself.

Sometime after Luxu mysteriously disappeared to fulfill his role assigned to him by the Master, the Master meets with Ava alone in the Foretellers' Chamber. He instructs her to avoid the imminent battles in favor of gathering Keyblade wielders, regardless of their Unions, to be part of a separate faction called the Dandelions, who would venture to another world in order to ensure the survival of light. The Master provides Ava with a list of five Keyblade wielders she must gather as Dandelions in order to succeed the Foretellers as Union leaders following the Keyblade War, with only one of them meant to receive a copy of the Book of Prophecies.Quest 665: Target: Blitz Spear Pt. 5

Gula and his fellow Foretellers are soon introduced to the Master's new creation, the Chirithy. Though the Spirit Chirithy are meant to aid Keyblade wielders in their endeavors, the Master warns them that if a wielder falls to darkness, so will their Chirithy, causing them to transform into a Nightmare. When Aced suggests that they destroy any Nightmare Chirithy they come across, Gula and Ava tease Aced for his frightening demeanor, much to Aced's embarrassment.
Ava and her fellow Foretellers are soon introduced the Master's latest creation, the Chirithy. While Ava gushes over Chirithy's cuteness, the Master explains that the Spirit Chirithy are meant to aid Keyblade wielders in their endeavors, but he warns that should a wielder fall to darkness, so will their Chirithy, causing them to transform into a Nightmare. Aced suggests that they destroy any Nightmare Chirithy they come across, but Ava refutes the idea. Ava and Gula then tease Aced for his frightening demeanor, much to Aced's embarrassment.

Without warning, the Master disappears from the world, and although the Foretellers actively seek him out, they are unable to locate him. Upholding the Master's teachings, Gula and the other Foretellers begin recruiting Keyblade wielders to each of their Unions, utilizing the powers of their copies of the Book of Prophecies in the form of Medals to aid their wielders in collecting Lux to maintain the balance of power.

Over time, the Foretellers notice Keyblade wielders utilizing bangles that provides them the power to collect dark energy, though they decide that using the bangles was acceptable for their Union members. Subsequently, Ira summons the Foretellers for a meeting in the Foretellers' Chamber, declaring that there is a traitor among them after discovering a Nightmare Chirithy snooping around their home. Gula proposes to have each of the Foretellers summon their Spirits to prove their innocence, but Invi points out that it would be easy for any of them to summon a Chirithy that is not a Nightmare. Unable to find a viable solution to discern the traitor, Aced condemns Ira for spreading doubt amongst them and adjures the meeting, prompting Gula to depart from the Foretellers' Chamber.

A few days later, Aced invites Ava and Gula to meet with him in a warehouse, where he voices his frustration against Ira's suspicions. Ava tries to defend Ira's actions, but this only aggravates Aced further as he believes Ira should trust them. At Gula's behest, Aced proposes to form an alliance between their Unions, prompting Ava to remind him that alliances are forbidden. While Gula accepts Aced's offers, Ava declines, opting to follow the Master's teachings. When Invi arrives to the warehouse, a disheartened Ava watches as Aced and Invi argue and accuse the other being tainted by darkness. With this, Ava parts ways with her fellow Foretellers.

A few days later, Aced invites Ava and Gula to meet with him in a warehouse, where he voices his frustration against Ira's suspicions, and Gula agrees that Ira's claims had no merit since there is no evidence to support them. At Gula's behest, Aced reveals that he wants the three of them to form an alliance, despite the fact that alliances are forbidden. Gula inquires if Aced intends on joining forces to confront Ira, and Aced claims that he wishes to focus on fighting the approaching darkness while Ira is busy identifying the traitor. While Ava declines, Gula accepts Aced's offer for an alliance, but specifies that it is only between them, as he does not want to involve the members of the Leopardus Union. Gula then asks if Ira and Invi are aware of his plan, and Aced admits that he did not confide in Ira, but that he had asked Invi to join them. When Invi arrives, Gula watches as Aced and Invi argue and accuse the other being tainted by darkness. Afterwards, Gula parts ways with his fellow Foretellers.

Sometime later, Ava sits alone in the Fountain Square and is soon joined by a wielder named Ephemer, who notices her depressed demeanor. Ava confides in Ephemer about her doubts about the Master's teachings regarding the competition between the Unions, much to his surprise. Ava approves of Ephemer's desire to solve the mysteries of the world, as she believes that people should question things and think for themselves. Ephemer jokingly tries to get Ava to talk about the Book of Prophecies, but she denies him. Hearing that Ephemer had befriended a Keyblade wielder from a different Union, Ava is pleased to learn that wielders from other Unions could work together. After Ephemer leaves, Ava is relieved to know the world following the Keyblade War would be entrusted to young Keyblade wielders who share Ephemer's perspective.

Later that night, Ava encounters Ephemer outside the entrance to the Foretellers' Chamber and guides him to the outskirts of Daybreak Town for a private conversation. Ava informs Ephemer of the impending Keyblade War, and selects him to act as one of the new Union leaders in the Foretellers' stead after the war. She then provides a book of rules that must be followed once the new Union leaders take charge to prevent future destruction. Moreover, Ava tells Ephemer that the Union leaders must erase the memories of the Keyblade War from their fellow Dandelions and avoid any possible connections between the two worlds, thus the truth about the war must be kept a secret among the new Union leaders. Despite Ephemer's misgivings about erasing everyone's memories, Ava sends Ephemer to travel to another realm and instructs him to meet the other Union leaders in the Keyblade Graveyard following the war.

A few days later, Ava finds Player and Chirithy, who are trying to locate Ephemer, at the entrance to the Foretellers' Chamber. Ava refuses to divulge any information regarding Ephemer and attacks to test the latter's strength. After a quick battle, Ava states that she sees a lot of potential in Player, but notes the sadness in their heart and warns they will fall to darkness if the darkness is not dispelled. Ava allows Player and Chirithy to leave, realizing that the Player is the one who Ephemer had mentioned before.

After Player and Chirithy returned home to rest, Ava appears in Player's room to ask if Chirithy had been showing Player dreams about Ephemer. When Chirithy denies this, Ava deduces that Ephemer is getting close to the truth, having fallen into an unchained state and finding himself in a different realm, and he is trying to reach out to Player. If Player is connected to Ephemer, Ava realizes that Player is getting closer to that realm, though whether Player goes or not is determined by their heart. Ava tells Chirithy to protect Player from Nightmares before taking her leave.

A few months later, Invi persuades Gula to suspend his partnership with Aced. During one of their meetings, Gula explains to Aced that their alliance is meaningless since the alleged impending darkness has yet to come and Aced has not rallied anyone else to his cause. As Aced starts to object, Gula accidentally slips that Invi agrees with the dissolution of their alliance. Aced realizes that Invi convinced Gula to terminate their alliance, though Gula defends that it is his choice to follow through with it. Outraged, Aced reminds Gula that the traitor has not been discovered yet, though Gula cites this to be the motivation for his actions as he is unable to trust anyone else. Aced counters that Gula will not win against the darkness on his own, but an apologetic Gula remains firm in his decision and leaves.

A year later, Ava receives word from her Chirithy that Aced and Invi have been sighted battling each other throughout Daybreak Town. Hurrying to the scene, Gula, who was watching the duel nearby, calls Ava to their location. Invi declares that Aced is the traitor, and although Ava is reluctant to believe this, she and Gula stand with Invi against Aced. With strong belief in his own goals, Aced plunges into battle against his former comrades, from which he barely emerges alive.

A year later, Gula secretly observes Aced and Invi's debacle, smiling as Invi gains the advantage. When Ava is lead by her Chirithy to the scene, Gula calls Ava and they join Invi, who has deemed Aced the traitor. Though Ava is hesitant, Gula summons his Keyblade and encourages Ava to do the same. Aced then launches himself into a vicious battle with his former comrades, from which he barely emerges alive.

Although Chirithy assures "Ira" that will not retaliate against him, Player decides to avenge Ephemer, but "Ira" emerges as the victor. In the aftermath, Gula looks over the Lost Page in an alleyway and recalls of the role he was given by the Master, reminding himself to trust no one but himself. Gula locates Aced, finding him collapsed in one of the houses of Daybreak Town, and tells him about the incomplete nature of their copies of the Book of Prophecies and the contents of the Lost Page. Summoning his Keyblade, Gula reveals that the Master tasked him to find and stop the traitor, much to Aced's disbelief and rage. Unable to forgive Gula for silently standing by while the Foretellers fought each other, Aced cuts him down with his Keyblade. Before he can finish Gula off, Ava arrives and begs Aced to stop, who consents and leaves Ava to tend to Gula on her own.
Ava heals Player, thanking them and Skuld for showing her the strength of their hearts. Ava proceeds to tell them the truth of the Keyblade War, Ephemer's involvement, and invites Player and Skuld to join as well. Although Skuld immediately agrees, Player is concerned for those not chosen to become Dandelions. Ava respects their decision, but asks that Player and Skuld keep everything she has told them a secret due to the sensitivity that comes with the topic of the future.

Soon, Ava discovers Aced and Gula fighting at a warehouse and jumps in to stop Aced from finishing off Gula. As Aced withdraws, Ava tends to Gula's injuries and goes into hiding to protect Gula from Ira. However, they are discovered by Invi, who reports them to Ira, leading Ira to confront Ava a few days later. Frightened by the possible consequences, Ava resolves to protect Gula from Ira, who calmly accepts this and leaves. When she returns to Gula's side, Gula informs her of the contents of the Lost Page, which predicts an inevitable betrayal and "the one who bears the sigil", whom he had assumed was Aced. Gula commends the distraught Ava for her scrupulous behavior, and voices regret that he performed guileful deeds in following the Master's instructions. He then explains that he intends to summon Kingdom Hearts to decipher the Lost Page by forcing the Master to return, but Ava declines to assist him as summoning Kingdom Hearts had been forbidden. Respecting her decision, Gula goes off on his own.

Knowing that Ira is searching for him, Ava takes Gula into hiding, though Invi quickly discovers them and reports their location to Ira, leading him to confront Ava a few days later. Frightened by the possible consequences, Ava protects Gula from Ira, who calmly retreats after Ava asserts her resolve. When she returns to Gula's side, Gula informs her about the ambiguous contents of the Lost Page, which predicts an inevitable betrayal and "the one who bears the sigil", whom he assumed was Aced. Gula commends the distraught Ava for her scrupulous behavior, blaming himself for basing his actions on the Lost Page. Determined to find out what the Lost Page truly means, Gula intends to summon Kingdom Hearts to force the Master's return and pleads with Ava to help him with his plan. Although Ava declines, as summoning Kingdom Hearts is forbidden, Gula respects her decision and goes off on his own.

Ava later chides Invi for worsening the conflict between the Foretellers by divulging Gula's whereabouts to Ira, and defends her own actions in assembling the Dandelions by explaining that she is merely following the Master's instructions. Invi apologizes for misinterpreting Ava's actions, and Ava discloses Gula's plan to summon Kingdom Hearts by collecting Lux. They realize that Aced and Ira are also gathering Lux out of fear that Gula is vying for power, and decide to do the same in order to maintain the balance and delay the war, despite worrying that it could hasten the war. Ava gathers her Dandelions at Fountain Square and instructs them to continue their preparations to avoid the war by going to the world outside, and entrusts them with the hopes for the future. In a last attempt to obtain outside intercession on the brewing conflict, she begins looking for Luxu, hoping he can lead her to the Master.

Sometime later, Gula is approached by Player, Chirithy, and Skuld to ask him about Ava, who has recently vanished. Gula deduces that they are members of Ava's Dandelions, and that they are trying to find Ava to avert the upcoming Keyblade War. Gula tells them that only the Master can stop it, who has disappeared, and the missing Luxu might be the one only to know of his whereabouts. When Gula remarks on the similarities to between Skuld and Ava, Skuld realizes that Ava is searching for Luxu to find the Master. Gula then recites a passage of the Lost Page to Player and co., explaining that the traitor described on it would be the one to bring an end to the world. Gula admits that, although they suspected someone, they were unable to stop them. Chirithy questions if Gula should be divulging the Lost Page to them, and while Gula affirms that he should not, he sees it meaningless to hide its contents now that the Keyblade War is near. Hearing the bells of the Clock Tower toll, Gula announces that the war has begun and advises Player and co. to leave, as each Union will rally their forces to prepare for the war.

Eventually, Ava tracks down Luxu at the outskirts of Daybreak Town and interrogates him. Luxu explains that he was assigned to survive the Keyblade War and observe the events to come, and that her attempts to prevent the war by locating the Master are futile. He tells her that the Lost Page is an additional part of the prophecy that was kept secret from the Foretellers, making Ava wonder if all the conflict had simply been according to the Master's plans. She accuses Luxu of being the traitor, who then reveals the truth of the traitor. Luxu wonders if the Master has chosen to take an interest in the fate of his disciples over the fate of the world, but Ava refuses to accept that the Master's motives could be suspect, and accuses Luxu of exploiting the Master's will. She attacks Luxu, signalling the beginning of the Keyblade War as Daybreak Town's bell begins to toll. Shortly afterwards, she arrives to the Badlands with the members of her Union.

Despite his young age, Gula is a cool-headed and serious individual, though he also shows a more playful side when he teases Aced for his scary demeanor when the latter suggested that the Foretellers should eliminate Nightmare Chirithy they come across. Unlike most of the Foretellers, Gula displays a pragmatic attitude in regards to the Master's teachings, as he willing to accept alliances out of convenience, despite it being forbidden, but would also leave these alliances out of convenience as well.
Ava is a kindhearted individual whose youth enables her to befriend the members of not only her Union, but others as well. Despite her young age, she is prudent and diligent, fulfilling the role the Master of Masters assigned to the letter, despite her own personal misgivings in regards to some of his teachings; when questioned on this, however, she is quick to assert that the Master is beyond reproach despite all evidence to the contrary. She is very forthcoming in most matters, able to tell Ephemer about her doubts as a Foreteller, and able to personally invite others to become members of the Dandelions. She also displays a more childish side, as she is openly infatuated by the Chirithy the Master presents to the Foretellers.

He is highly scrupulous and finds himself in much need of guidance, particularly in interpreting the contents of the Lost Page. In a most extreme show of this behavior, he states his intention to summon Kingdom Hearts to prompt the Master's return. He can be quite rash as well, when he confronts and attacks Aced and assumes he is the traitor.

As he is bearer of the Lost Page, Gula becomes distrustful of others around him and believes that he can only trust himself once he was given his role, as instructed by the Master of Masters. The distrust he builds between himself and others finally withers away as the Keyblade War looms upon the residents of Daybreak Town, when he shares an excerpt from the Lost Page with Player and their friends, but only because he believes that it would make no difference if others knew of its contents.

Story

Before Kingdom Hearts χ

Ava is given a Keyblade forged from her own heart by the Master of Masters, who takes Ava, Aced, Gula, Invi, Ira, and Luxu as his apprentices. Ava eventually achieves the rank of Keyblade Master alongside her fellow apprentices.[citation needed]

Shortly thereafter, the Master gives a copy of the Book of Prophecies to Ava and grants her leadership over the Vulpes Union as its Foreteller. As Ava and the other Foretellers read their copies of the Book of Prophecies, they are shocked by the final entry, which details an event known as the Keyblade War, during which light would expire and the world would reach its end.

The Master of Masters assigns Ava her role.

The Master provides Ava with a list of five Keyblade wielders she must gather as Dandelions in order to succeed the Foretellers as Union leaders following the Keyblade War, with only one of them meant to receive a copy of the Book of Prophecies. Quest 665: Target: Blitz Spear Pt. 5

Upholding the Master's teachings, the Foretellers begin recruiting Keyblade wielders to each of their Unions, utilizing the powers of their copies of the Book of Prophecies in the form of Medals to aid their wielders in collecting Lux in order to maintain the balance of power.

Having watched Player defeat countless Heartless throughout Daybreak Town, Ava commends them on their abilities. She suggests that Player should fight alongside the other Vulpes Union members to defeat larger Heartless and then leaves them to defeat a Darkside. Once the Darkside is defeated, Ava reappears and warns Player that there are others who collect light for nefarious purposes. Ava allows Player to discern who walks the path of darkness before she departs.

Ava proposes that the Nightmare could belong to a wielder in one of their Unions, though Ira reasons that the bangles are the Nightmare's doing and the traitor has to be one of the Foretellers since only one of them could have obtained the bangles. Aced condemns Ira for spreading doubt amongst them and adjures the meeting, prompting Ava to depart from the Foretellers' Chamber.

When Neoshadows appear in Daybreak Town, Player joins three other Keyblade wielders in their efforts to quash the darkness being spread by the new species of Heartless; however, Player is the only survivor. After Chirithy witnesses another of its kind fade, Ava appears to speak with Player, revealing that while the Keyblade wielders are gathering Lux at an amazing rate, the darkness is spreading even faster. Chirithy asks if that means that there really is a traitor among them, to which Ava states that she is not willing to believe that yet.

One night, Player is shown a dream by Chirithy, in which Ava and the other Foretellers meet with the Master in the Foretellers' Chamber, though Nightmare Chirithy quickly puts a stop to this dream.

Ava voices her doubt to Ephemer.

After Player successfully completes the Dark Corridor Trials, Chirithy reports back to Ava, who is pleased to hear of their progress, but Chirithy questions the wisdom of assigning such a dangerous mission. Ava laments that she has no choice but to hasten Player's training, as she must strengthen their resistance to darkness as quickly as possible and obtain as many warriors as they can get on the side of light.

Believing him to be the traitor, Ava, Invi, and Gula prepare to battle Aced.

When Player, Chirithy, and Skuld enter the Foretellers' Chamber in search of Ephemer, they are caught by Ava, who has disguised herself as Ira. "Ira" divulges that he caught Ephemer in the Foretellers' Chamber several days before and that Ephemer's Union collects Lux for a reason conflicting with that of the Player's Union. He accuses Ephemer of having befriended the Player solely to acquire information, and states that he eliminated Ephemer for this suspicion. Although Chirithy assures "Ira" that will not retaliate against him, Player decides to avenge Ephemer, but "Ira" emerges as the victor. As the Player is cast to the ground, the façade of the Foretellers' Chamber and Ira fades away and the group find themselves still in the sewers in front of Ava, who explains that she disguised herself as Ira in order to test Player and Skuld.

Ava attacks Luxu and signals the start of the Keyblade War.

Etymology

Ava's name is derived from the word avaritia, which means "greed" in Latin and is represented by a fox in the Ancrene Wisse.
