As [[Sora]] or [[Riku]] progresses through the game, the Drop Gauge, located on the lower-right of the screen, will eventually deplete over time. The Gauge has three bars, a blue, a green, and a magenta bar. When the blue bar runs out it becomes the green one. When the green bar runs out, it becomes the magenta one. When only a small amount of the magenta bar is left, the Gauge pulses with an aura. Once the Drop Gauge is empty, it will count down with a high-pitched tone, warning the player that it is almost time to switch. How fast the countdown is completed varies with how many Droplets you have. Droplets can be earned by defeating [[Dream Eaters]] or by doing other activities. Droplets can also be used to get bonuses. When the countdown is finished, Sora or Riku will float in place. The screen will go to a menu where you can pick a bonus for whoever is being played next. Bonuses include, temporary boosts in attack strength, new abilities, items, or a loss of speed at which the Gauge dissipates. The Drop Gauge can also be affected negatively by a [[Status Effect]]. Status Effects increase the speed of how the Gauge decreases, meaning Sora or Riku will drop faster.

Mechanics

To progress trough the game's story, it is necessary for the player to switch between Sora and Riku. The player will automatically drop when the Drop Gauge runs out. The player can also drop manually by using the "Drop" button that appears on the World Map, in the main menu, or in the pause menu.

While on the field, the Drop Gauge, located on the lower-right of the screen, will deplete continually over time. The Drop Gauge has three bars: a blue, a green, and a magenta bar. When the blue bar runs out it becomes the green one, and when the green bar runs out, it becomes the magenta one. The Drop Gauge also has a multiplier, which represents the speed in which the gauge depletes. Certain enemy attacks will cause negative Status Effects that will increase the speed the Gauge decreases, meaning Sora or Riku will drop faster. The player can restore or reset the gauge by using items like Drop-Me-Not and Drop-Me-Never.

When only a small amount of the Drop Gauge is left, it pulses with an aura. Once the it is empty, it will count down with a high-pitched tone, warning that the player has entered "Bonus Time". More Droplets, that can be earned by defeating Dream Eaters or by doing other activities and awards the player Drop Points (DP), will appear during this period. Once Bonus Time ends, the player will automatically drop into the next character.

When the countdown is finished, Sora or Riku will float in place, and the player will enter in the Relay Bonus screen. On it, the player can spend collected Drop Points (DP) to pick bonuses for the next character. Bonuses include temporary boosts in attack strength, new abilities, items, or a loss of speed at which the Gauge dissipates.

If the player drops during a boss battle, when it change back to the character he was playing, it will start from the beginning of the battle, and the boss HP will be restored.
