DoorToNothing Heartless Emblem.png — I dreamed last night... I got on the boat to Heaven!

And by some chance, I had brought my dice along! — 08:26, November 7, 2010 (UTC)

Keyblade-Blk.png I originally posted this on the active forum, but certain other discussions and matters drew attention away from. It is incredibly important that the community becomes aware of this possibility for our wiki, since it has now drawn the attention, interest, and support of three wikis: this one, the FFWiki, and Chronopedia. For the sake of having little else to say, I'm going to repost my message pertaining to the forming of a Square Enix portal, with a few revisions:

I would like to open an idea to the community of KHWiki, as well as to several other wikis. I have spoken to KrytenKoro and Azul81677 about this matter, and the FFWiki admins also have supported the idea, from those that I have spoken to. We seem to understand that NIWA is a large portal for Nintendo-based wikis. I propose the idea of forming a portal for Square Enix wikis, using the MediaWiki software. Essentially, we are recreating NIWA for a different type of gaming wiki. Of course, the two main wikis would be KHWiki and FFWiki, though we could also invite Chronopedia, Dragon Quest Wiki, and even KHWiki Francophone and Espanol. By doing this, all of the connected wikis can grow from each other. We will still all be separate wikis in every respect, but when one wiki gain more contributors or readers, those people are bound to trickle to the other wikis as well. Chronopedia has already expressed a desire to join this.

This would involve private hosting, possibly of multiple wikis, and we would have to contact NIWA to figure out how they set up their portal. However, we have on multiple occasions shown that the entire community has the potential to financially support the wiki and its off-wiki links (ex: users in this thread offering to pay hosting fees and the money that our community was able to donate to Adola's bot servers for the IRC). Honestly, the communities of the main (and even some minor) Square-Enix wikis are akin to each other, since several editors edit more than one of these wikis. Our wikis are already joined by editors (and in many cases, templates and interwiki content and linking), so we would just be building on that connection.

This should also get us more views and readers than moving to a lesser known wikifarm. Seriously, Wikia is huge, leaving it is going to cost us an enormous amount of our readers. To gain them back, we're going to have to stay as well known as we can. If Wikii is the small service provider it looks to be, that may not be our best option.

Please leave comments below. Personally, I think this is a better moving plan than to be hosted by Wikii. We can be sure this will never happen again, we will be better known independently than as a part of a small wikifarm, and we can join the many already connected wikis toward a mutual goal: to create the greatest collection of Square Enix wikis, to be better than any strategy guide, walkthrough, or other relative information base.

Comments from members of other Square Enix wikis, such as the Final Fantasy Wiki and Chronopedia, are also very welcome.

I did not read what was written.

BUT I APPROVE!

Because DTN says I should be serious: I like the idea. I suggested it early on when the Oasis crysis began. NIWA actually talked about making an FF section for their wikis.

Either way, I believe this way is best. I don't care for official business so others can work the whole thing out.

Isa_bbs.png Chronopedia is in.

About the other wikis.. I think this is the best moving idea.

Also, NIWA expressed interest in this, too. See this.

While I do not speak for the majority of the Final Fantasy Wiki, I, as a staff member there, am opposed to moving away from Wikia. I might get a lot of flack for saying this, but Oasis isn't that terrible for the common viewer. There's code floating around that increases the size of the text, and really that's the only major bad change of Oasis. They've fixed most of the annoying bugs that were around, and the majority of new anons would not know there was ever an alternative. Just as many people came into Wikia with Monaco (I came in around the end of Quartz, which was a much worse skin), many people will see Oasis as the only skin, and when that is inevitably abandoned, people will complain.

The only difference between hosting and here is that the anons see Oasis. Users will still use Monobook (unless you manage to get the source code for Monaco), there will probably still be adds to support hosting costs. I don't hear or see any anons complaining about Oasis; it is merely the users who are accustomed to the old and can't simply take this as any other Wikia addition: simply move on. Wikia will always be changing things that should not be fixed, and that's an inevitable truth, but should we leave for it? I doubt it. ScatheMote 13:59, November 7, 2010 (UTC)

Some of us look forward to accommodating to Wikia, and is considering ideas. You're welcome to add to of what remains. BLUER一番 14:13, November 7, 2010 (UTC)

Talk_Bubble_Legend_zpsa9c4698c.png Regardless of how horrible, or how great, you think the new skin is, I believe this is still the better option. Being free of Wikia could do us some good. We would be independent, free to think on our own, not bound by what Wikia wants us to be. We can make decisions for ourselves, and we'll have much more control. I support this idea. Good work DTN. ^_^

I also fully support this idea. It seems like an obvious choice--well, despite the fact that almost nobody had thought of it on their own...

ScatheMote, I have seen at least two comments in our forums from people who said they made an account on wikia just to complain about the skin. The new sites could very well have Oasis as well, for those who want it, they just won't be mandatory. A big part of this is not just the negative effects of the skin (such as on Dimension Link), but also wikia's consistent attitude of forcing all the wikis to accommodate their whims, rather than allowing us the freedom to choose.

w:c:square. Just want to add the "Square Enix" wiki to your attention. The thing that, in a sense, parents both FFWiki and KHWiki. 80.42.254.253 16:33, November 7, 2010 (UTC)

Hello Everyone. My name is Budd0011 here on Wikia, and Tacopill on NIWA. I'm the original poster of the thread SilverCrono linked to above. It is very nice to meet everyone. Bud0011 16:54, November 7, 2010 (UTC).

EDIT CONFLICT: Okay no one edit until I made my message. SeanWheeler 17:11, November 7, 2010 (UTC)

Actually, I think a Disney portal would be better. There are more Disney characters than Final Fantasy characters. Kingdom Hearts is more of a Disney game than Square. SeanWheeler 17:16, November 7, 2010 (UTC)
Sorry for Causing the edit conflict. :'( . Bud0011 18:08, November 7, 2010 (UTC).
ScatheMote: Major disagreement aside, this isn't the forum to post your argument, this is just for discussion about forming a Square Enix portal.
SeanWheeler: We are not linked to Disney wikis more than we are to Square Enix wikis, see the original message's statement on what connects us to wikis like the FFWiki. From what I can see, the Disney Wiki also has shown no interest in leaving Wikia. --DTN Room Core.png 19:04, November 7, 2010 (UTC)

I'm Zyeriis, I'm the only admin on the FFXIV Wiki. Why is that relevant? I hold all the power there and am the top contributor by far. Disregarding that, I was in the midst of building my community when Oasis revealed its ugly, downgraded face. What happened to that community? It died, a horrible (albeit quick death). So, I started a poll, to see what those remaining, wanted to do. A week went by...with only 3 votes (2 to leave, 1 to abandon). Another week went by, nothing changed. After I posted that I was giving up, the poll got a little bit more active. As predicted, just about everyone wanted to leave. Since then I've been looking for options for a new wikifarm or host. At first, I wanted to go with Curse, because that's what WoWWiki did. Alas, it turned out that FFXIVcore...is hosted by Curse so that wasn't/isn't an option. My top choice after that is ShoutWiki. I got in contact with them a few days (perhaps a week) ago and was told that they won't be accepting transfers again until they install their new, larger servers around mid-November. I simply, can't wait that long, my wiki is pretty much dead as it is right now.

Last Night, DTN somehow located my discussion page about what to do with FFXIV Wiki (also known as Hydaelyn's Handbook) and told me that you guys are considering making a Square version of the NWA. He didn't give me a link to where you were discussing this though and I spent the a hour or so last night and some time today, perusing through your forums regarding your discussion about what to do (I read a lot of it) until I found this page.

Ok, that's my story, leaving out my verbal rebellion against the Wikia Staff on community central, of how I ended up here. In truth, this idea for the SIWA (or just SWA) is absolutely perfect. I am unsure as to how I could contribute but I am all for this idea and want to get this decided immediately.--Zyeriis 21:26, November 8, 2010 (UTC)

After I get some passporty stuff done tonight, I'm going to start the installation at wikkii. The cool thing about wikkii is that we can give our new site any address we want, and khwiki.net was approved in the previous forum. This portal - would we have to host our wiki on the same servers? Or is it more like a more intimate affiliation? I'd really like to discuss this in person, so it would be great if all the staff of the various wikis interested in forming this could meet on the irc, at #SEIWA, sometime this week. I'm free any evening after 5:00 EST, but I think Tuesday would work best for me.
Do you mind if i join the conversation? Bud0011 22:07, November 8, 2010 (UTC).
Since you are our connection to NIWA I don't see why not.
One thing: This group can't be SIWA, Siwa is an OASIS in Egypt. Θάνατος 06:59, November 9, 2010 (UTC)
Sweet. How do i connect to #SEIWA? i am still new to the irc thing. I'm more familar with skype, aim and the like. Sorry for my noob-ish-ness. Bud0011 07:09, November 9, 2010 (UTC).
I think I'm right in saying you can just head to http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=SEIWA, and choose a nickname to sign in with. Adam (talk) 21:11, November 9, 2010 (UTC)
Sounds good, and Thank you. I am in the chat now. Bud0011 21:38, November 9, 2010 (UTC).
Alterantively, if anyone has a skype, i will also be on there with the username "tacopill". Bud0011 22:33, November 9, 2010 (UTC).

Domain name

Was talking with Zyeriis and Crono on the SEIWA irc, and after checking with the domain name register, found out seiwaportal.org is avalible. Here's what i recommend it standing for: Square Enix Independent Wiki Alliance, and "portal" coming from this thread's name. Does this work for everyone? Bud0011 23:47, November 10, 2010 (UTC).
