Protect Chain is an accessory found in Kingdom Hearts. It is the first accessory it is possible to obtain in the game, found on the Destiny Islands, and can be commonly found later on. It is a purchase item available in Cid's Accessory Shop in Traverse Town, is rarely dropped by the Soldier Heartless, and comes equipped on several secondary characters, including Aladdin, Ariel, Jack Skellington, and Peter Pan. It provides a single extra point to Defense. The upgrade is the Protera Chain.
It was originally called the Protes Chain in Japanese, which may be one of two mythological references. Proteus was a Greek god of the sea known for his shapeshifting abilities. However, it may also be tied to Proetus, son of Abas and brother of Acrisius, both of who have items named after them in Kingdom Hearts II.
