In the film, it is very mysterious as the film does little to explain its origins, and does not really explicitly show the creature in its entirety, only parts of it and its tentacles. It later destroys the ''Black Pearl'', in which it seems to swallow and kill Jack Sparrow, although it took him to Davy Jones' Locker.

The Kraken is a legendary, monstrous cephalopod-like sea monster in Kingdom Hearts III. It originated from Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.

Story[edit]

Kingdom Hearts III[edit]

Tia Dalma mentions the Kraken was the one who dragged Jack Sparrow and his beloved Pearl to the Locker, and that most who hear of it tend to run for shore to avoid its wrath. During the battle against the Dutchman, Luxord calls upon the Kraken to remove the Pearl from "the game", forcing Sora's ship to fire on the beast to free the vessel. During the fight on the Dutchman, the Kraken's tentacles lash out at the heroes when they gain the upper hand against Davy Jones.

Design[edit]

The Kraken is a gargantuan, cephalopod-like monster. While it is never seen fully, the only visible parts are its grey tentacles, which resemble that of a squid.

Personality[edit]

Strategy[edit]

Only the Kraken's tentacles holding the Pearl are very vulnerable. The ones being used as barriers are much tougher, and requite a lot of time to wear down; this however, is a very poor choice, as it will allow the Kraken to crush the Pearl uninterrupted. The Flying Dutchman also assists the Kraken by firing on the Leviathan from different angles.

The best method is to fire at the gaps in the Kraken's tentacles to damage it. Take out the Dutchman by firing on its orbs, powering up the ship's bombarding attacks and use them on the Kraken to deal a huge amount of damage at once. Make use of the barrier to hold off fire from the Dutchman, and then retaliate with cannon fire to allow time to fire at the Kraken.

Origin[edit]

The Kraken first appeared as an antagonist in the 2006 film Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. It is based on the mythological entity of the same name. In the film, Davy Jones has the power to summon it and use it to attack whatever he commands, due to Davy Jones's power to mark those who owed him debt with a black spot. The Kraken destroys two ships; the first is the Edinburgh Trader, which Will Turner is on. It later destroys the Black Pearl, in which it seems to swallow and kill Jack Sparrow, although it took him to Davy Jones' Locker. In Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, Davy Jones is forced to kill the Kraken under the orders of Lord Cutler Beckett, who controls his heart.
