Trinity Limit is a special technique introduced in Kingdom Hearts. It allows the user to use the power of teamwork to unleash a powerful attack.

Mechanics[edit]

In Kingdom Hearts, Trinity Limit is a Special Ability that Sora can use with Donald and Goofy nearby. Selecting Trinity (トリニティ Toriniti?) from the last command box causes two red orbs to emerge from Donald and Goofy and be absorbed into the Keyblade. Sora then executes a few powerful flips and leaps, then does a back somersault, planting his Keyblade into the ground, summoning a large energy wave crushing all enemies down within the area. The more MP Sora has during the executing period, the more powerful the finishing attack becomes. In the Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX version of Kingdom Hearts Final Mix, the Trinity command is implemented as a Reaction Command. It costs 5 AP to equip, 1 AP in Kingdom Hearts Final Mix, and consumes all of the party's MP, requiring at least 3 MP from Sora to activate.

In Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories, Trinity Limit is an attack sleight that has the same appearance as from Kingdom Hearts. It is a very powerful attack that deals heavy damage, capable of clearing one or two whole fields of enemies in a row.

In Kingdom Hearts II, Trinity Limit is a Limit that has two forms. It costs 5 AP to equip, and uses all of Sora's MP. If Trinity Limit is used with Donald and Goofy in the active party, the command menu changes to:

  • Triangle: Major Drive (プライスレス Puraisuresu?, lit. "Priceless") causes the trio to fire a barrage of Drive Orbs.
  • Square: Ultima (ラストガ Rasutoga?, lit. "Lastga") causes the trio to draw in enemies and summon a cluster of fireworks.
  • X (Circle in Japanese releases): Break (ブレイク Bureiku?) causes the trio to deliver a series of powerful mid-air slashes.

After each command is executed, the corresponding button command changes to Begin Combo (コンボスタート Konbo Sutāto?, lit. "Combo Start"). Selecting it activates the finishing attack, during which Sora, Donald, and Goofy raise their weapons together and unleash a storm of energy that hits all enemies in range. The pose Sora, Donald, and Goofy take for the finisher is similar to their pose when activating Trinity Detect in Kingdom Hearts. Only Begin Combo deals actual damage, with the number of hits determined by the combined number of hits dealt by Major Drive, Ultima, and Break. In the original Japanese version, Trinity Limit can deal the number of hits from the previous use of Trinity Limit if it was higher than the current amount. And as the final hit of Begin Combo counts as one additional hit per enemy for the next use, Trinity Limit gets stronger after each use.

If Sora is without Donald and/or Goofy, Trinity Limit instead consists of Sora performing a solo version of the Break attack combo. Sora will attack ten times, with the first nine attacks building up to a final, lunging blow that pierces the enemy with a powerful finishing move. The Break command can be repeated once, or twice with Combination Boost equipped. This is the only limit that can be used without any party members.

In the Nintendo Switch release, A, used to activate Break, changes the Major Drive command into Begin Combo, while X, used to activate Major Drive, changes the Break command into Begin Combo. This allows the player to repetitively use whichever command was chosen first, and keep increasing the combo count for as long as there is remaining Limit Gauge, resulting in damage that is much higher than what is normally possible when using Begin Combo.[2]

In Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, Trinity Limit is an Advanced-class Friendship Command that takes up three slots in the Command Deck, has a maximum level of 1, and a normal reload time of 40 seconds. When used alongside Terra, Ventus, or Aqua, as in the battle against the Trinity Armor, they will join in the attack. It becomes stronger by pressing X at the prompt.

In Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, Trinity Limit is a Dual Attack that allows the user to summon an orb of light that explodes, dealing Light-elemental damage.
