The Dream Sword is a weapon which appears in  Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts II, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, and Kingdom Hearts Re:coded. It appears within Sora, Roxas, and Data-Sora's Dive to the Heart, alongside the Dream Shield and Dream Rod. These three weapons represent the paths that Sora, Roxas, and Data-Sora can take — the path of the warrior, the guardian, or the mystic. As the weapon of the warrior, the Dream Sword focuses on strength and avoids defense, and if Sora or Roxas choose it, they will learn their offensive abilities at lower levels. Additionally, Sora will eventually gain an extra Item Slot. Data-Sora will gain a Quick Blitz command if he chooses the Dream Sword, and a Cure command if he gives it up.

The Dream Sword is one of the only two possible weapons used only by Sora that can injure the Heartless (the other being the Keyblade).  The dream shield and dream rod may also injure Heartless, should the player choose them instead.
If Sora chooses the Dream Sword in Kingdom Hearts, he will use it as a weapon throughout his Dive to the Heart. Like the Dream Shield and Dream Rod it will disappear at the end of the dream, but unlike those weapons it cannot be re-obtained in the waking world. In contrast, if Roxas or Data-Sora chooses the Dream Sword in Kingdom Hearts II and Kingdom Hearts Re:coded, it will immediately transform into their respective Kingdom Keys. Sora can wield this sword within Mission Mode in Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days.

The Dream Sword has a small, black Mickey head on it. How the sword relates to Mickey is unknown. Sora obtains the Dream Sword in the Awakening; but only if the player so chooses. The player may choose to use the Dream Sword, to ignore it, or to discard it, then losing it forever. If they accept to use the Dream Sword, then Sora's stats will focus on Strength. If he discards it, then Strength will be the least focused stat. If he ignores it, then Strength will grow normally. If Sora takes the Dream Sword, he loses it upon leaving the Awakening.

Gameplay
The Dream Sword is normally only obtainable in the Awakening and can not be found later in the game. However by using a Game Shark to modify the game a player can obtain the Dream Sword (and other dream weapons) later in the game.
Sora is able to wield the Dream Sword in Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days if the Zero Gear is equipped. Unlike the plethora of identical combos for Sora's various Kingdom Key variants, the Dream Sword's combo is completely unique. Its ground combo begins with a basic hit with the sword, followed by a forward thrusting move, with the weapon pointed out. Pressing dsy at this point will make Sora jump up in the air in an uppercut with the sword, and pressing dsy again will finish the combo with a vertical spinning attack, in which Sora spins several times vertically with his weapon brandished. A normal continuation of the combo will finish with a slide forward, then a slashing move almost identical to Zantetsuken.
The Dream Sword can in fact be one of the strongest weapons as its attack is dependent on your current level. It goes up by one attack for every 10 levels you gain. So at level 1 it will have attack one but at level 100 it will have attack 10. This is stronger than the Ultima Weapon, but it has no effect on magic or any secondary abilities. So Ultima Weapon is still more powerful as in increases your magic and the effects of spells such as (the highly useful) Cure, Cura and Curaga.

—Dive to the Heart

Story[edit]

Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance[edit]

As Riku dives into Sora's heart, he glimpses a flashback of Sora wielding the Dream Sword against the Darkside.

Design[edit]

The Dream Sword is a generic short sword with a black Hidden Mickey symbol on the hilt and a blue handle. The pommel is simple and golden in color. It is similar in design to the sword at the core of the Ultima Weapon.

Its appearance resembles that of the magic sword from the Disney film The Black Cauldron.

Gameplay[edit]

Sora is able to wield the Dream Sword in Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days if the Zero Gear is equipped. Unlike the plethora of identical combos for Sora's various Kingdom Key variants, the Dream Sword's combo is completely unique. Its ground combo begins with a basic hit with the sword, followed by a forward thrusting move, with the weapon pointed out. Pressing Y at this point will make Sora jump up in the air in an uppercut with the sword, and pressing Y again will finish the combo with a vertical spinning attack, in which Sora spins several times vertically with his weapon brandished. A normal continuation of the combo will finish with a slide forward, then a slashing move almost identical to Zantetsuken.

The Dream Sword's aerial combo begins with a diagonal slash upward, followed by a sharp slash downward. It finishes with a vertical spinning attack, in which Sora spins several times vertically with his weapon brandished; a manner not unlike the Hurricane Blast.
