Story

Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance

Side:Sora

Sam is present with his father and Quorra as they watch Sora confront Rinzler; Quorra is intrigued by Sora's Keyblade, prompting Sam to ask if his father created the weapon. After Rinzler escapes, Sam introduces himself to Sora and reveals his and Flynn's predicament. With Sora intent on rescuing Tron, Flynn allows Quorra to accompany the Keyblade wielder to CLU's ship while helping Sam search for the portal back home.

Side:Riku

Sam first encounters Riku on a Recognizer. They both manage to escape from the games, where Sam reveals that he came to this world to find his father, who vanished 20 years prior.

Later, on the Rectifer, Sam and Riku team up to rescue Quorra from Rinzler, then they head towards the portal in a fighter jet that Flynn stole from a Black Guard.

Soon, the four reach the portal, where they encounter CLU, who summons the Commantis to destroy them, though it is defeated by Riku. Sam and Quorra escape to the real world while Flynn dies absorbing CLU.

Design

Sam's appearance is based on his attire in Tron: Legacy. He possesses short, light brown hair and dressed in a black, skintight outfit with blue circuitry similar to Tron himself.

Personality

Origin

Sam first appeared as the protagonist of the 2010 film Tron: Legacy, portrayed by Garrett Hedlund. He is presented as the son of the since-disappeared Kevin Flynn and the "official" owner of ENCOM, although the only interest he has in the company is playing an annual prank on the board of directors. Eventually receiving a message from his father, Sam enters the Grid inside his father's old arcade and ends up in conflict with the Grid's tyrannical ruler, CLU 2, and his right-hand man, Rinzler. As Sam is almost killed, he is saved by an ISO, Quorra, who takes him to his father in a secluded house in the mountains, where they are reunited.

Upon learning that CLU 2's goal is to enter the real world and take it over, Sam embarks on a mission to escape back to the real world with Flynn and Quorra while leaving CLU 2 trapped inside. Along the journey, Sam develops romantic feelings for Quorra. Eventually, when they make it to the I/O tower, Sam and Quorra are forced to leave Flynn behind, who sacrifices himself to destroy CLU 2 by merging with him. Once safely outside, Sam takes Quorra to a bridge to show her a sunrise, something she had longed to see for a while.

Trivia

  • The scene where Riku activates his Light Cycle is a replication, camera angles and all, of Sam's own Light Cycle activation scene in Tron: Legacy.
