Aladdin, also known as the fictitious Prince Ali Ababwa, is an orphaned thief introduced in Kingdom Hearts, and originally taken from the Disney film Aladdin. He is a young man living in the slums of Agrabah along with his pet monkey, Abu. He comes into conflict with the city's ruthless royal vizier, Jafar, who sought to use Aladdin to acquire the Genie's lamp. Aladdin fights with a balanced combination of strength and agility, using his Arabian scimitar to defeat his foes.

Aladdin confronts the Wily Bandit.

An alternate version of Aladdin appears in a simulation of Agrabah created by the Book of Prophecies. After a successful robbery, he and Abu return home and learn that Agrabah is under attack. Rushing on to the scene, They confront the Wily Bandit, which manages to defeat Aladdin. Abu jumps onto the Heartless in retaliation, but it disappears with Abu and leaves him unconscious in the desert.

He is found by Player, and suggests that they turn back due to the danger in Agrabah. Ignoring Aladdin's warning, Player battles Heartless in the city, and is eventually confronted by the Wily Bandit. Aladdin jumps into the fray, but the Wily Bandit disappears again. After he explains what had happened to Abu, Player offers their assistance. However, Aladdin rejects their offer, as he is unwilling to endanger Player's life, but promises to contact them if he needs any help.

Depressed after failing to find Abu in the Starless Sands, Aladdin reunites with Player and voices his lack of faith in ever finding Abu. Admitting that he had hoped a set of mystic rubies would lead him to his missing friend, Aladdin gives in to his doubt. After Player provides Aladdin with a much needed pep talk, his hope is restored and he accepts Player's help in searching for Abu. While investigating the local bulletin board, Player learns that there had been monkeys seen terrorizing the oasis, and the pair go to the oasis to see if Abu is with them. Although they do not find Abu, Aladdin decides to check another location, but he grows concerned because it is so far from town that it would be dark by the time they got there and they would get lost.

When Aladdin and Player return to town to try and figure out how to navigate the Starless Sands, they find a group of Red Bandits stealing Aladdin's rubies. The pair track down the Red Bandits and retrieve the rubies, but Aladdin is discouraged because he still does not know how to use them to find Abu. Clutching the rubies, Aladdin wishes that he knew how to find Abu, activating the rubies, which fly from his hands and light a path through the Starless Sands to the Wily Bandit's hideout. Here, Aladdin and Player fight through hordes of Heartless until they reach the Wily Bandit. After they defeat the Wily Bandit, Abu revealing himself to administer the final blow. They reunite, but Abu feels jealous when he notices that Player is with Aladdin, who assures Abu that Player is not a threat and that no one could replace him as his best friend. Returning to Agrabah, Aladdin thanks Player their help and welcomes them to come back to the city before the two part ways.

Aladdin encounters a disguised Jasmine being attacked by Bandits. Aladdin and Abu save Jasmine, but the Bandits keep pursuing her and force them to retreat. Meanwhile, Jafar and Iago utilize the Sands of Time to discern the identity of the "diamond in the rough", which is revealed to be Aladdin. Once safe, he brings Jasmine to his home and shows her his view of the palace. When Jasmine seems disinterested, he asks where Jasmine comes from, but she evades the question and tells him that her father is forcing her to get married. Just then, the Guards find Aladdin and apprehend him, prompting Jasmine to reveal herself as the princess and order for Aladdin's release. However, the Guards inform her that their orders come from Jafar, and Jasmine must speak with him about it.

Arriving in the city, Player learns of Aladdin's arrest and makes their way to the dungeons to rescue him. With Abu's help, Aladdin is freed from his chains, who mulls over how he would never see Jasmine again because of the law stating that she must marry a prince. A disguised Jafar emerges and convinces him to strike a bargain: retrieve the lamp from the Cave of Wonders in exchange for his own freedom and treasures beyond his wildest dreams. Knowing that the Cave of Wonders is dangerous, Player chases after Aladdin, only to be attacked by the Ferry Reaper.

At the Cave of Wonders, Aladdin is allowed entry, but is advised to touch nothing but the lamp. Player arrives in time and volunteers to venture into the Cave of Wonders with him. Making their way through the chambers of treasure, Player and co. meet Carpet, who offers to lead them to the lamp. The Blizzard Lord and Volcanic Lord appear to block the way, forcing Aladdin and Abu to fight them back in order to proceed toward the lamp. Within the chamber, Aladdin goes to retrieve the lamp alone, but as he does so, Abu is enticed by the forbidden treasure and touches it, incurring the wrath of the Cave of Wonders Guardian. With Carpet's help, Aladdin manages to reach the entrance and gives the lamp to Jafar. Jafar attempts to kill him, only to be stopped by Abu. The Cave of Wonders then collapses and sends Aladdin and Abu to the depths. As Jafar prepares to celebrate, he realizes that the lamp is now gone.

When Player finds Aladdin, Abu, and Carpet, Abu reveals that he had stolen the lamp back from Jafar before they fell. Aladdin ends up rubbing the lamp, unknowingly summoning the Genie. After the Genie explains his wish-fulfilling powers and the limitations that go along with them, Aladdin tricks the Genie into helping them escape the Cave of Wonders without technically wishing for it.

Once they reach the Oasis, Aladdin reveals his trick to the Genie, who Genie then asks what Aladdin's first wish will be. When Aladdin asks what Genie would wish for, Genie tells him his desire for freedom since he has been a servant for thousands of years. Aladdin promises to give Genie his third wish and then wishes for Genie to make him into a prince so that he could impress and marry Jasmine.

They arrive in Agrabah just as Jafar is attempting to hypnotize the Sultan. Aladdin, under the guise of "Prince Ali Ababwa", meets the two and they discuss Jasmine's future. Later that night, as Jasmine has refused to speak with Aladdin, Genie tries to just get him to tell Jasmine the truth, though Aladdin rejects the idea and tries to reach out to Jasmine his own way. Using Carpet to reach Jasmine's balcony, he attempts to speak with her, but she brushes him off. After revealing Carpet's presence to Jasmine by pretending to jump off the balcony, Aladdin takes her on a romantic carpet ride, where she realizes Aladdin's identity. Aladdin covers this up by claiming to disguise himself as a commoner in order to get away from his oppressing royal lifestyle, just as Jasmine had done.

When the night is over, Jasmine kisses Aladdin and they part ways, but before Aladdin can relish his success, he is apprehended by Jafar and the Guards, with Jafar ordering them to get rid of Aladdin. The Guards take Aladdin to the coast, tying a weight around his ankle and throwing him into the water. Genie uses Aladdin's second wish in order to save him. After Player reunites with the two, they head back to the palace in order to expose Jafar's treachery.

With Aladdin out of the way, Jafar hypnotizes the Sultan and forces him to order Jasmine to marry Jafar. She refuses to marry Jafar out of her love for "Prince Ali". Just as Jafar claims that "Prince Ali" had left, he reveals himself and how Jafar had attempted to have him killed. Realizing that the Sultan's strange behavior is the result of Jafar's staff, Aladdin breaks it and frees the Sultan, who orders Jafar's arrest. Jafar sees the lamp in Aladdin's possession and summons a Heartless so he can escape.

With Jasmine set to marry him, Aladdin has everything he wanted. However, he resolves that he cannot wish Genie free, or else risk losing Jasmine if she should ever discover the truth. Mimicking Jasmine's voice, Iago draws Aladdin away so that he can steal the lamp, thus allowing Jafar to claim Genie and make his first wish: to become sultan. As darkness covers the sky, Player rushes to Aladdin's side, only to find that Jafar has Aladdin, Jasmine, and the Sultan under his control. Jafar reveals Aladdin's farce to Jasmine just as Player attempts to intervene, and Jafar casts them both out of the kingdom with his magic.

Player and Aladdin wake up to find themselves in a snowy wasteland. After locating Carpet, they fly back to Agrabah in order to stop Jafar. In Agrabah, Jafar asks Jasmine to become his queen. When she denies him, Jafar attempts to use Genie to force Jasmine to fall madly in love with him. Seeing Aladdin sneak into the throne room, Jasmine pretends that Jafar's wish worked to buy Aladdin time to steal back the lamp, but Iago sees spots them and warns Jafar. Jafar transforms himself into a giant cobra in order to finish Aladdin off once and for all, with Player joining the latter in battle. Jafar manages to get the upper hand and constricts Aladdin and Player, only to be tricked by him into wishing to become a genie himself, as Genie's power still outweighed his own. Jafar falls for the trick and battles Aladdin and Player after becoming a Genie, only to be imprisoned within his own lamp afterwards.

Aladdin apologizes to Jasmine for lying, though she understands, and Genie encourages him to use his third wish to become a prince again. Instead, he wishes for Genie's freedom, as he had originally promised. Despite having given up his chance to be with Jasmine, the Sultan abolishes the law stating that Jasmine must marry a prince, allowing Jasmine to choose Aladdin.

Kingdom Hearts[edit]

Aladdin and Sora ambush Jafar
Aladdin and Sora attempt to confront Jafar.

Aladdin helped Jasmine escape the castle before the sinister vizier Jafar and the Heartless took over the city; then set off with his monkey pal, Abu, to the "Cave of Wonders" in order to find something that would make him a fabulous, wealthy prince.

Aladdin makes his first official appearance at the concealed "Cave of Wonders" entrance with Abu. As more and more Heartless appear, Aladdin makes his first wish from the Genie of the lamp to get rid of the Heartless. Meeting Sora, Donald, and Goofy, Sora tells him about Jasmine and her worry for him. Meanwhile, Genie laments about his time in the outside world again along with his long time friend "Carpet". Hearing this, Aladdin makes a promise to free him from the lamp with his third wish. When they catch up to Jafar and Jasmine, Aladdin makes his second wish to save her but his wish is neglected when Jafar's parrot, Iago, takes the lamp away from him. Aladdin and the others follow Jafar to the Cave of Wonders only to find Jasmine kidnapped by Jafar. However Jafar is not alone, Riku is there as well. Jasmine is taken away by Riku and given to Maleficent shortly after Sora and Aladdin defeat Jafar. Aladdin asks Sora to take him to another world so he could find the princess, but Sora sadly refuses in order to preserve world order. Genie then offers to help him find Jasmine with the use of the third wish, but instead uses it to free Genie from the lamp as he promised. Aladdin asks Genie to help Sora in any way that he can.

After Sora escapes Hollow Bastion, a powerful Kurt Zisa Heartless is released into the desert of Agrabah. Should the player choose to fight this optional boss, Aladdin can also become available to participate in the fight.

He is last seen kissing Jasmine after she returned to Agrabah with the sealing of Kingdom Hearts.

Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories[edit]

Sora first finds Aladdin as he walks into Agrabah, where Aladdin is being attacked by Heartless. Sora quickly disposes of them. Aladdin explains himself and his situation by saying he went to the Cave of Wonders to obtain the magic lamp and use one of three wishes to become a fabulous, wealthy prince. Aladdin is very familiar with fighting Heartless, but the Heartless he was trying to fight wouldn't stop coming so Aladdin used his first wish of the Lamp that Genie resides in is to get rid of them. Aladdin goes with Sora to find Jasmine, only to see that she is being attacked by Heartless too. Sora gets rid of them instead of Aladdin using up another one of his wishes. Jafar takes Jasmine away from Aladdin along with the lamp. Aladdin and Sora plan strategies, then go after Jafar, defeat him, free Genie from his lamp with his third and last wish, and set off.

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days[edit]

Aladdin is first seen talking with Jasmine at the Palace Gates of Agrabah, he tells her of the numerous recent sandstorms that have occurred. Jasmine feels his concern, the situation only worsened when Aladdin claims the Heartless are involved. Jasmine repeats the name of the dark creatures, shocked. Little do the two know that Xigbar and Roxas are eavesdropping in on their conversation the entire time.

Later, Aladdin appears with Abu, yelling at him once again for stealing in the Marketplace.

Kingdom Hearts II[edit]

Aladdin and the other confront Jafar
Aladdin and the others confront Jafar at the palace.

Aladdin has moved into the Palace of Agrabah, but has been in depression since Genie and Carpet have flown off to explore the world. Seeking excitement, he heads off into the city. Jasmine has noticed his depression and tries to help him, but to no avail.

Aladdin meets Sora, Donald, Goofy, and Iago again while running after Abu, stopping just long enough to greet Sora as he runs off. Sora catches up to Aladdin, who explains that Abu has stolen a lamp from the Peddler. When Iago realizes that the lamp was really Jafar's lamp, they try to persuade the Peddler to sell it to them. The Peddler, however, wants treasure in exchange for the lamp forcing Sora and Aladdin to go to the newly designed Cave of Wonders in search of treasure. Although there are lots of traps awaiting them, they manage to get through. They meet Pete, who summons Heartless to hold them off while he goes to steal the lamp. After the Heartless are wiped out, Sora and Aladdin leave the cave and head for Agrabah where Pete is chasing the Peddler for the lamp. Pete then summons the Volcanic Lord and Blizzard Lord, two high level Heartless. After dispatching the two Heartless Lords, Sora opens the Gateway and heads off for the next world...

By the time Sora and his friends return, they find out that Jafar has escaped the lamp because of the Peddler. Aladdin again joins Sora to confront Jafar. After searching the desert ruins, Sora finally finds Jafar. A battle ensues between Sora and Jafar to which Sora is the victor.

After Jafar is defeated, peace is restored to Agrabah as well as the city itself. Aladdin then encourages Sora to find his friend, Riku.

Aladdin is last seen flying off into the sky of Agrabah with Jasmine on the back of Carpet with Genie following them.

Kingdom Hearts coded[edit]

Data-Aladdin informs that he has a means to save Agrabah from Jafar.

A data version of Aladdin appears in data Agrabah, this time as an ally instead of a party member. He meets Data-Sora and was about to deliver something to Data-Jasmine. Unfortunately, he cannot find her so he asks Sora to help him. After Data-Sora finds her, they meet with Data-Aladdin again as he prepares to show Data-Sora a lamp. However, they are interrupted by Data-Jafar, who kidnaps Data-Jasmine. Data-Jafar then freezes time, which makes Data-Aladdin and everyone in Agrabah unable to move. After Data-Sora defeats Data-Jafar (the source of Block Corruption), Data-Aladdin frees Data-Genie. Data-Aladdin then asks Data-Sora if he can have a Sardonyx Ring and will trade him an Ability Earring+ for it.

Design[edit]

Aladdin posing as Prince Ali Ababwa
Aladdin disguised as Prince Ali Ababwa.

Aladdin has tan skin and brown eyes, as well as black, shaggy hair. He wears a red-violet fez and a thin, purple vest. This vest hangs open, exposing his chest. His pants are white and baggy and are held up by what seems to be an orange sash. Aladdin's street-rat status is reflected by the yellow patch on the lower right of his pant leg, and by the fact that he doesn't wear shoes or socks, instead running barefoot.

As "Prince Ali Ababwa", Aladdin wears white royal regalia. His shirt and pants are white with his collar, boots, cuffs, and shoulder pads being golden. His cape is white with a blue inside, and he wears a white turban with a blue feather.

Personality[edit]

Aladdin is portrayed as a clever and good-hearted person with unwavering loyalty to his friends, as shown when he uses his third wish to free Genie from the lamp instead of bringing back Jasmine from Hollow Bastion. Somewhat of a worrier, Aladdin seeks to protect and please those close to him even if it means exhausting himself. As a person living in the streets of Agrabah, Aladdin dreams of becoming wealthy someday to free himself from the stigma of his "street rat" lifestyle.

He has a passionate love for Jasmine, willing to do anything for her. Upon discovering her identity as a princess, Aladdin seeks the magic lamp in the Cave of Wonders in hopes to become a wealthy prince suitable for the princess, but later decides to use his true identity and lifestyle to be with her. He can be shown selfish and indignant at times, but has good intentions.

Abilities[edit]

Kingdom Hearts[edit]

Aladdin is a physical character and his scimitar has high power. He has two equipment slots and six item slots. He wields his sword using a number of powerful techniques, but he tends to burn through his MP rather easily.

Aladdin only has two combat abilities, Crescent and Sandstorm, both of which are offensive special attacks. Additionally, Aladdin has a variety of support abilities, such as Cheer, Treasure Magnet, Lucky Strike, Jackpot and Critical Plus.

Outside of combat, Aladdin is required in the party in order for Abu to activate gem pedestals, in the Cave of Wonders.

Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories[edit]

Aladdin makes an appearance as a friend card. When one card is used, Aladdin runs about the field, slashing with his sword as he runs and producing Moogle Point orbs whenever an enemy is hit. Stocking multiple Aladdin cards form the Sandstorm Lv2 and Sandstorm Lv3 sleights, which increase the value of Moogle Points and stun enemies that are hit.

Kingdom Hearts II[edit]

Aladdin is primarily a physical attacker with several support abilities, similar to Goofy. His strength and defense are also roughly below Goofy's. His scimitar hits are very fast, and he is very agile in battle.

Aladdin's action abilities are scimitar attacks that yield various effects; Slash Frenzy stops enemy movement while Quickplay produces MP orbs. His limit, Trick Fantasy, involves Aladdin and Sora slashing enemies at high speeds, producing orbs at the same time.

Aladdin also has a number of support abilities at his disposal, including Jackpot, Item Boost, MP Haste, Once More, Auto Limit, and Auto Change.

Aladdin starts with 55 HP and 100 MP. He has 2 armor slots, 0 accessory slots, and 5 item slots, three of which start equipped with Potions and the other two with Ethers. Aladdin can obtain an additional 15 HP from clearing the Stone Guardians trap, 15 HP from clearing the Heartless from the Treasure Room, and 15 HP from defeating the Blizzard Lord and Volcanic Lord.

Origin[edit]

Aladdin's first appears in the Walt Disney's 1992 film, Aladdin. In the film, Aladdin is a poor "street rat" (as commented by Jafar) living on the streets of Agrabah until he meets Jasmine, the Princess of Agrabah and daughter of the Sultan. When the Princess secretly enters the marketplace to see the world outside her father's palace, she meets Aladdin. However, when the Sultan's palace guards (under orders of Jafar) act under a warrant to arrest Aladdin, Jasmine reveals that she is the Princess. Aladdin, thrown into prison, later ventures to the mysterious Cave of Wonders (after being led by Jafar, disguised as a prisoner), only to be imprisoned there when Abu cannot control his impulses and touches the forbidden treasure. There, he meets the big blue Genie of the Lamp, who takes him out of the dungeon in the cave to an island. There, Aladdin asks the Genie to turn him into a prince to impress Jasmine.

After impressing Jasmine, Jafar discovers his identity, steals the lamp and reveals Aladdin for who he truly is. He uses the Genie's powers to take over Agrabah but is defeated when Aladdin tricks him into wishing to become a Genie, causing Jafar to be trapped in his own lamp. Her father, having witnessed these events, abolishes the law requiring Jasmine to marry a prince, and Jasmine chooses to marry Aladdin. The Genie sends Jafar's lamp far away and Aladdin grants Genie his freedom with his last wish.

Disney's inspiration for the film came from the Middle Eastern folktale of the same name, which was one of the many stories of One Thousand and One Nights.
