In the film, he is a human orphan raised by wolves, but when the tiger Shere Khan returns to the jungle, he is forced to travel to the human village for protection. Along the way, he encounters many of the jungle's denizens and ultimately defeats Shere Khan with fire. Hesitant to return to the human village, he spots a human girl collecting water who lures him to the village.
Mowgli also appears in the film's sequel (in which he was voiced by Sora's voice actor Haley Joel Osment), the 1994 live-action remake, and the 2016 live-action remake.
