Iago is a parrot from Walt Disney's Aladdin. He is the servant of Jafar. He appears in all the Kingdom Hearts games, and is voiced in the games and the movie by Gilbert Gottfried. He also appears in Walt Disney's The Return of Jafar, Aladdin and the King of Thieves and the TV series of Aladdin.
Personality
Iago is a selfish, rude and abnoxious parrot. He secretly mocks his master, Jafar, and the only reason he probably obeys him is to fulfill his own greediness. He is relatively harmless, and secretly has a good heart, which he tries to hide. He is slightly cowardly, and tends to hestitate before rushing into anything he believes will be hazardous to his well-being.
The movies
Aladdin
In Aladdin, Iago is the loyal servant of Jafar. He follows Jafar in hopes to become rich when his master finds the mysterious lamp of the Genie. He helps Jafar trick the street rat Aladdin into venturing into the Cave of Wonders and collecting the lamp. When it is lost by Jafar to Aladdin, Iago disguises himself and steals the lamp back. Once Jafar crowns himself sultan of Agrabah, Iago becomes a noble and Jafar believes he is in bliss. But when Aladdin returns and imprisons Jafar in his own lamp, Jafar grabs onto the escaping Iago and both are sucked into the lamp prison.
The Return of Jafar
In the second film, Iago escapes the lamp and decides to change his evil ways. He goes to meet Aladdin and tells him of his redemption. He isn't believed at first, but after saves Aladdin's life at the hands of Jafar, he is finally trusted.
Aladdin and the King of Thieves
Iago is now living in the sultan's palace, and is close friends with Abu and the magic carpet. He is companions with Aladdin, and ventures with him to the floating turtle island at the climax of the film.
Kingdom Hearts
In Kingdom Hearts, Iago is the Jafar's servant. He plays a minor role, normally just appearing on Jafar's shoulder in cinematics, but he does steal the lamp from Aladdin. He later appears holding Jafar's lamp in the boss battle, and he flies around with it. The lamp is the main way to do damage to Jafar's health. Unlike the movie, Iago simply flies away at the downfall of Jafar.
Iago makes a small cameo appearance in Chain of Memories, holding the lamp during the Jafar boss battle, like in the first game.
In Kingdom Hearts II, Iago, like The Return of Jafar, has turned over a new leaf. He wants to prove himself to Aladdin. He does so by taking the lamp from Pete and by blocking an attack on Aladdin from Jafar.
