Protect (プロテス Purotesu) is an ability introduced in Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories. It defends the user from physical damage.
Mechanics
In Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, Protect is an enemy card effect that decreases the damage taken from an opponent's physical attacks. It costs 30 CP to add to the deck and lasts for one reload.
In Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, Protect and its advanced forms, Protera (プロテラ Purotera), and Protega (プロテガ Purotega), are support abilities that reduce damage received by the user, with Protect reducing it by 10%, Protera reducing it by 20%, and Protega reducing it by 40%.
In Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, Protect is a Dimension Link ability that reduces damage taken from physical attacks.
In Kingdom Hearts Re:coded, Protect is an Overclock ability that decreases damage taken by Data-Sora from direct attacks by 25%.

- The Defender enemy card has Protect as its ability.
- The Black Fungus enemy card can randomly activate Protect.
- The Darkside enemy card can mimic an enemy's Protect.

- The Majestic Mushroom+ has Protera as its Equipment Ability.
- The Ultimate Mushroom has Protega as its Equipment Ability.

- The Kingdom Key 2.5 and its upgrades have Protect as a level 2 Clock Ability.

Origin
Protect is a recurring status in the Final Fantasy series. It generally increases the affected character's defense against physical attacks, and it is usually applied with the spell of the same name.
