Riku, while traveling through the Outskirts of La Cité des Cloches is ambushed by the Wargoyle when searching for Frollo. The beast chases him across the city until Riku finally encounters Frollo and [[Phoebus]] at the Mill. Riku realises that the Wargoyle was created from Frollo's darkness but the insane judge claims that he was granted this "Righteous Judgement" to destroy the gypsies forever. Frollo leaves with the Wargoyle to carry out his plans and the Nightmare easily overpowers Phoebus who is left badly injured. After Riku finds Frollo atop Notre Dame, he summons the Wargoyle to eliminate him but the vibrations from the beast's wings cause him to plummet to his death. Riku faces the beast and eventually destroys it for good after a gruelling battle, the Wargoyle's wings shatter and it falls into the fiery inferno.
