Destiny Islands
When you start the game in Destiny Islands Sora wakes up on the beach, where he and Kairi talk. Sora tells Kairi about the dream he had, after which you are introduced to Riku, Sora's rival and friend. After the cutscene ends you are placed near Kairi. When you speak to her, she will tell you to get the following items:
All these can be obtained on the island. One of the logs can be gotten from the shore underneath the bridge. The second log can be gotten from the island across, use the bridge to get to it. The rope can be gotten from the platform on the west end of this side of the island. And the cloth can be gotten from the tree-house in the middle of this side of the island.

After you have everything go back to Kairi and talk to her, however there are other things you can do such as fight Riku to gain some early experience. If you choose to talk to Kairi she will give you a Hi-Potion that's yours to keep. Choose the option to go home if you want to proceed further.
The cutscene shows Sora, Riku and Kairi talking about other worlds out there, which there are... just that they don't know yet. Then another cutscene which shows that King Mickey is not present in Disney Castle and Donald and Goofy go look for the Key Bearer. After the cutscene you are then left on the pier to go looking for other things to do.
First thing you need to get to the Cove (the other side of the island) and talk to Riku who will ask you what to name the raft, you can enter whatever kind of name you like, Riku suggests Highwind. Then you are forced into a race against Riku, if you win the race you get a Pretty Stone. The "sharing a Paopu with Kairi" is a lie.
You can repeat the race as many times as you wish. Each time you win the race, you'll get a Pretty Stone. You may want to stock up on these as they can be sold later on, and some extra munny might prove useful for the early part of the game.
After you win or lose the race you need to go see Kairi, yet again, go to the other end of the Cove and you'll find her on the raft, talk to her and she will ask you for more things:
- One Seagull Egg
- Three Mushrooms
- Two Coconuts
- Three Fish
- Drinking Water
So all these, again from the island. The fish can be found on the beach on the Seashore. The coconuts can be obtained by hitting trees. You're looking for yellow coconuts, not brown ones. The seagull egg is in one of the palm trees near the bridge by the door to the Seaside Shack. The mushrooms are scattered around the island. One is behind the rock in an alcove at the Cove. One is near the post in the Cove. The final mushroom is in the Secret Place, however there is a cutscene which shows Sora drawing Kairi, completing his Paopu fruit drawing. The cutscene also shows a strange, cloaked man who talks about "this world being eclipsed in Darkness". Finally, the Drinking Water is obtained by walking into the waterfall in the Seashore. Go back to Kairi. She will give you another Hi-Potion. There is also a hidden Treasure Chest in the Cove, near the wooden tower there is a wooden crate, pick it up and throw it against the wall with a hole in it. Climb up into it and open the chest to receive a Protect Chain. When you're done, go to Kairi and talk to her. Choose the first option to proceed, however you can stay behind to fight Wakka, Tidus, and Selphie.

</tabber> In a cutscene, Kairi and Sora talk about Riku and how he's changed. Following this cuscene is another custence which explains the letter Pluto found, along with various other cutscenes. In the last cutscene, Sora goes to the island because of the storm. Now you are introduced to the Heartless.
Attacking the Shadows won't affect them at this point, so ignore them and run to the bent Paopu tree, where you will find Riku. After another cutscene, Riku vanishes into the darkness and Sora gains a mysterious weapon... the Keyblade. You can now attack as many Heartless as you please—this is an excellent chance to gain some experience. Force your way into the Secret Place, where you will find Kairi and the door will open, propelling both of you out of the cave and directly into a battle against another Darkside.

Once you enter battle, keep attacking the Darkside's hands. The boss will instantly use its projectile attack, so be sure to avoid the energy beams it fires as they home in on your location. The only other attack in the Darkside's arsenal is a powerful downward punch that spawns a pool of darkness, but also fortunately leaves its fist wide open for attack. While you don't necessarily have to worry about your HP during this battle, you can always use a Potion if it drops to critical status. Simply continue attacking the Darkside, and it will go down in no time. |
