As Terra/The Lingering Sentiment
Terra's Scenario (As the Lingering Sentiment)
For Terra's final battle, first of all note that you are playing as the Lingering Sentiment rather than Terra in his normal incarnation. This means two things. First, you will no longer be able to Dimension Link. Second, Lingering Sentiment is forced to equip Gaia Bane as it's Keyblade, so if Terra was using a more powerful weapon such as the Delicious Tower before hand be prepared for a slight drop in offensive power. Otherwise you will retain the Command Deck you had set up on Terra before hand including all Commands, Shoot Locks, and Items. You can still enter Terra's Command Styles here, however maintaining them is difficult so they might not see much use.
For the final boss fight of Terra's scenario, the player takes control of the Lingering Sentiment in order to battle Terra-Xehanort. It will have access to any abilities Terra had equipped before the battle, its Keyblade preset to the Gaia Bane. No D-Links can be used during this battle.

A good Command set up is one Curaga Spell preferably with an added Leaf Bracer ability, several attacks that hit multiple times such as Chaos Rave, Solo Arcanum or Sonic Blade and a powerful Shoot Lock. You will be guarding often so equipping Restore Guard or Focus Guard to recover HP or Focus Gauge is also advisable.
In early stages of the battle, Terra-Xehanort will immediately go on the offense, usually dashing around the battlefield, surrounded in darkness. The player's best defense against this tactic is to use Guard and immediately follow with a Revenge Stamp. This will do great amounts of damage to Terra-Xehanort, causing him to warp away. When he attempts a physical attack, a devastating combo comprised of several quick hits, the Guard and Revenge Stamp combo again can be used. Terra-Xehanort may also utilize the Shotlock Black Volley, but the dark projectiles he fires can be deflected back at him to deal damage with Guard.

Xehanort uses Terra's moves or variations of such against you. Since Terra is the player character this makes it easy to predict and counter him, however this also means he can do two things most bosses can't. First off Xehanort can guard and counter as Terra would, so attacking him from behind is preferable, and also Xehanort can cast Curaga on himself making him one of the rare bosses that can heal. His healing cannot be interrupted however he can't or won't use it often so it should be easy to out damage his healing.
As Terra-Xehanort's HP starts to dwindle, his true power is unleashed. He may use the Meteor spell, causing several large rocks to bombard the player. While this attack can potentially deal heavy damage, it can be defended against with a well-timed Guard. Terra-Xehanort may also cause large pillars of rock to shoot out from the ground around him, usually when the player is at close range. He will continue to use the Darkness-based attacks from earlier stages of the battle, which can be defended against in the same ways mentioned above. As with earlier stages of the battle, the player should make full use of the Slide ability in order to get away from the boss, and should not attempt to strike him with a simple physical attack.

In the early stages of the battle Xehanort will use Terra's Black Volley Shoot Lock at you. He can fire it in the same homing pattern Terra can or he can fire it faster and straight ahead. Both of these can be reflected back at him by guarding for decent damage making it a good way to damage and open up a chance to attack. In addition he will use a multi hit combo attack that can be guarded and countered, and he will use Terra's Dark Impulse Command Style in both its regular combo finishing with a dark punch of energy (which can break through your guard so dodging is advisable) and it's finishing attack where Xehanort will dive under ground and attack you directly from below (to avoid wait until he's right under you and then quickly dash). Finally Xehanort will cast the Quake spell causing the earth to erupt around you. For movement, Xehanort can dash like Terra can and he can also teleport around the area.
In short, this battle against Terra-Xehanort is all about an equal balance of defense and offense. Defensive abilities should be used which then link to an offensive attack, such as the Guard and Revenge Stamp combo. This way, most damage is avoided while the player can still deal heavy damage to the boss. One should also be careful when executing the Curaga spell. While this will fully restore the player's HP, Terra-Xehanort can heal as well, increasing the length of the battle. So long as the correct strategies are followed and the player uses patience, Terra-Xehanort will fall relatively soon and Terra's scenario will have been completed.

Aqua's Scenario
Once he's significantly damaged he'll use a variation of the Meteor spell that will call down several meteors at once. You can avoid this by either dashing out of the way of all of them or moving to a corner and blocking them as best you can. After this the fight will continue as before however Xehanort will add two new skills to the mix. He'll cast the regular Meteor spell, and he'll use Terra's strongest Shoot Lock Ultima Cannon although he fires a single large ball of energy similar to the Lingering Sentiment battle in Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix rather than Terra's version. This can't be hit back at Xehanort here so dash far away from it when you can.
First Battle
Aqua travels to Radiant Garden in search of Terra only to be faced with the possessed version of her old friend last faced in Terra's scenario at the Keyblade Graveyard. Terra-Xehanort will use a moveset very similar to that battle, but since Aqua's fighting style is different than Terra's, a slightly different strategy should be followed. Aqua has access to both D-Links and Command Styles, as well as Shotlocks. The player should make full use of these special abilities whenever possible.
Xehanort has several powerful attacks but if you carefully guard and counter when you can, take advantage of Restore/Focus Guard for healing purposes, and keep hitting him with attacks and Shoot Locks when he's vulnerable, Lingering Sentiment will prevail.

As Aqua
It is recommended that the player Wheel Roll away from the boss and use the Detona-Square ability. Terra-Xehanort will most likely dash in your direction surronuded in darkness as he did in his battle with the Lingering Sentiment, but he will be damaged by the mines, his attack interrupted and opening him to more damage. Once Terra-Xehanort is back on his feet, however, the player should follow a hit-and-run strategy, bombarding the boss with magic rather than physical attacks and either running or Wheel Rolling away immediately afterwards. The player can also use Reflect to defend against Black Volley, also using a Guard and Barrier Cracker combo to prevent damage from most attacks and still deal damage. Terra-Xehanort will summon rock pillars around him if the player is at close range, so use caution when attempting a combo that involves linking defense to a physical attack that only works at close range. As Terra-Xehanort's HP starts to dwindle, he will gain access to the Dark Impulse Command Style. He also may use Curaga to restore health, thus increasing the length of the battle.
First Battle
The initial fight is almost exactly similar to Lingering Sentiment's final boss battle in the Keyblade Graveyard, albeit with a condensed moveset. He will mostly use only the Solo Arcanum and Black Volley attacks, mainly relying on slide dashing behind the player, and attacking with Ars Solum. At this stage of the game, Aqua is considerably more well prepared than Terra, so the initial battle should go down without too much of a problem.

Second Battle
In terms of fighting Terra-Xehanort as Aqua, the player should favor magic, as her physical attacks are relatively week. While it is quite possible to go through the entire battle without using a D-Link, Command Style, or Shotlock, they will certainly make the battle easier. So long as the player uses patience when fighting this boss, he should not be a challenge.
Second Battle
Terra-Xehanort's great rage causes a dark symbiote known as the Guardian to spawn behind him. He then uses this creature to do much of the fighting during his second battle with Aqua for him. The Guardian will use many powerful attacks, and Terra-Xehanort can still attack with the fast-paced physical combo from previous battles, so use caution. As with the last battle, Aqua can use Command Styles, Shotlocks, and D-Links.

However, once he summons his Guardian Heartless, the fight becomes much easier. Basically, the Guardian will throw all sorts of spells at you, which are easily avoidable. You must mostly avoid being hit by the Guardian's dark balls, which will render Aqua temporarily blind and leave her vulnerable to further attacks. Occasionally, the Guardian will dive underneath the ground and follow Aqua from below, shooting upwards every few seconds. Be sure to dodge the Guardian by using Dodge Roll, otherwise you will be caught and become victim to a deadly attack. Another attack will transport Aqua and the Guardian into Xehanort's mind, portrayed as a yellow abyss with Terra in the centre. To escape, you must fight your way past the Guardian and reach Terra. Hitting him will transport you back to the arena, but performing a specific action with Terra, if you're lucky, will end the battle there and then. Every once in a while, Xehanort will separate from the Guardian and unleash his basic combo on you, which can be easily guarded and countered just like in Terra's story.
In early stages of the battle, the Guardian will vanish from behind Terra-Xehanort and begin to strike from underneath Aqua. Chain consecutive Wheel Rolls together to avoid this attack, or the Guardian will grab Aqua and slam her into the ground to deal heavy damage. The Guardian will follow Aqua as she Wheel Rolls, but the attack will always have a high chance of missing. Once it returns to Terra-Xehanort, strike the boss with the most powerful magic possible and continue with a hit-and-run strategy. The Guardian may sometimes attempt to shoot twin energy balls at Aqua. Wheel Roll out of the way to avoid these projectiles. Wheel Roll can also be used to dodge when the Guardian sends dual waves of energy in Aqua's direction. If Terra-Xehanort ever attempts a physical attack, knock him away with a Guard and Barrier Cracker combo. This combo can also be used if the Guardian ever attempts to punch Aqua with its mighty fist. If the Guardian ever latches onto Aqua, immediately break away by pressing C. The boss and his symbiote will repeat these attacks until much of their HP is depleted.

Once damaged enough, the Guardian will no longer dive underground, but will separate from Xehanort and lunge towards you. If you are too far away, it will give up and return to Xehanort. At this stage, avoid attacking Xehanort directly and rely more on Shoot Locks. Throughout the entire second battle, be sure to use the correct Shoot Lock, since Xehanort will easily avoid Shoot Locks like the Rainbow Shower (unless you perform the attack while the Guardian is preparing to dive underground). Photon Charge, Absolute Zero and Lighting Ray are the recommended Shoot Locks for this battle. Stick to these rules and Xehanort will fall once again (and thus the game will end).
Once enough HP has been depleted from Terra-Xehanort, Aqua will be transported to a realm of light. Terra-Xehanort will stand in the middle of the area, immobile and non-offensive, now bearing the appearance of Terra while the Guardian continues to attack by firing twin energy spheres. Wheel Roll over to Terra-Xehanort's location, and enter the pool of light surrounding him by pressing S. At the right moment, press C to team up with Terra-Xehanort to strike the Guardian with light. This attack will deal enough damage that if a certain amount of HP remains, it will immediately KO the boss. If not, it will at least deplete great amounts of HP, Aqua transported back to the main battlefield and the attack process beginning from square one. It is important to know that if one strikes Terra-Xehanort rather than using the finishing command, then Aqua will be transported to the normal battlefield again, as well.

Video
This incarnation of Terra-Xehanort is not difficult to defeat. So long as the player makes full use of the Wheel Roll ability to dodge attacks, they should take very little damage. The player must remember to keep at a constant hit-and-run strategy, utilizing magic rather than physical attacks, and only using the Guard and Barrier Cracker combo when a physical attack from the opponent must be defended against. The player can now heal with Curaga and without the fear of Terra-Xehanort healing as well, meaning this battle can go relatively quickly. The player should also try their best to activate the finishing command in the light realm. If this strategy is followed, then defeating Terra-Xehanort will be child's play. Terra-Xehanort's fall will also represent the completion of the Last Episode, unlocking more rewards in the game.

Xehanort, the main antagonist of the Kingdom Hearts series, makes his debut appearance as a boss in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, serving as the final boss for Terra (in the form of the Lingering Sentiment) and then for Aqua in the game's Last Episode.

Strategy

Terra's Scenario (As the Lingering Sentiment)

For the final boss fight of Terra's scenario, the player takes control of the Lingering Sentiment in order to battle Terra-Xehanort. It will have access to any abilities Terra had equipped before the battle, its Keyblade preset to the Gaia Bane. No D-Links can be used during this battle.
