Yao, Chien-Po, and Ling first appear at the Encampment. When Sora, Mulan (disguised as Ping), Donald, and Goofy arrive, Yao cuts Sora when they were waiting in line for food, causing a fight to break out. While Yao, Ling, Sora, and Donald fight amongst themselves, Chien-Po stands in the middle wondering what is for dinner. The trio pops up again at the Summit, with Yao carrying a rocket in hopes of killing Shan-Yu. After Shan-Yu attack the Palace, Ling helps protect the Emperor. After Shan-Yu's defeat, Chien-Po can be found outside of the Village Cave, Ling spends his time walking around the Village, and Yao can be found outside at the entrance of the Village.

Some time after Xemnas's defeat, Yao, Chien-Po, and Ling spy on Mulan and Li Shang, but they are discovered when they fall over, alerting the couple of their presence.
Ling is one of three aspiring warriors who joined the Imperial Army, the other two being Chien Po and Yao.

Design
He and Yao shared a dislike for Sora, Mulan, Donald and Goofy, but he eventually changed his mind after they saved the country from Shan-Yu and his army of Heartless.
Yao is a short, broad-shouldered, muscular man with a prominently Black eye left eye. He has thick, rectangular, black eyebrows and thick, black sideburns not unlike Xaldin's, as they hook around his cheeks and form a thin mustache on his upper lip. His chin is quite large and his nose is flat. Yao dresses in Chinese armor colored mostly in shades of grey and red. His helmet has a red tassel on its top and he carries a jian with a gold guard and pommel and a black hand grip.

Chien-Po is a large man in both height and weight that dresses in Chinese armour. Chien-Po's armor is mostly colored in shades of blue and grey, and his helmet has a red tassel on top of it. Despite his large, round face, Chien-Po's eyes, nose, mouth, and eyebrows are all quite small. His eyes are always squinted and he has rosy cheeks. He carries a jian with a gold guard and pommel and a black hand grip.
During the credits, Ling is shown spying on Mulan and Li Shang along with Yao and Chien Po, but the three are discovered when they fall down, alerting the Captain and, most likely, earning them punishment.

Ling is of average height and is quite thin. He has a somewhat pointed face, a large nose, black eyes, and rather thick, black eyebrows. He dresses in Chinese armor during the course of the game. Ling's armor is colored predominantly in shades of grey and yellow and his Kabuto sports a red tassel at the top. He carries a jian with a gold guard and pommel and a black hand grip as a weapon.

Personality
Ling is one of Yao and Chein Po's friends, he was the one who bullied Ping, even though he bullies people he doesn't look more like a bully.
Yao is very arrogant, aggressive, and short-tempered. He is often found yelling and degrading others. Out of the trio, Yao is the unofficial leader. He is also the most aggressive out of the trio, being shown starting fights often. Despite his aggressive nature, Yao is kind to those he respects.

Chien-Po is a calm and prophetic person. When compared to his partners, he is the most naïve; however, he is very good-natured and seeks to do no harm. Chien-Po's main personality is that of a "gentle giant"; while possessing immense strength, he prefers to remain neutral in many situations. Chien-Po has been shown to be naive, as he remains unaware of the fight between Sora, Donald, Ling, and Yao, only knocking them aside with his huge body. As indicated by his large stature, Chien-Po is a huge eater, and would rather sit and have a good meal than to involve himself in the squabbles with his fellow soldiers.

Ling is friendly and enthusiastic, and possesses a passion for telling jokes. While seeking acknowledgment from his jokes, he gains an obnoxious exterior. He and Yao shared a dislike for Sora, Mulan, Donald, and Goofy, but he eventually changed his mind after they saved the country from Shan-Yu and his army of Heartless.

Origin
Yao, Chien-Po, and Ling are from the original Disney movie Mulan and its sequel, Mulan II. At the start of the first film, the trio are recruits in Li Shang's troops at training camp to prepare China from the upcoming war against the Huns and its leader, Shan-Yu. There, the trio meets Mulan (disguised as a man under the alias Ping). When Mushu (Mulan's dragon guardian) insults Yao, Ling and the other troops were quickly taken in a full-out brawl when Yao begins a fight with Mulan, thinking that she was the one who insulted him. As a result, the recruits are given a harsh punishment, causing the trio to take a dislike to Mulan and continually harass her. However, Mulan quickly earns the trio's respect once she completed a challenge Shang set up for the troops. On the night the trio went to take a bath with Mulan (who was uncomfortable due to having to hide her gender), they reconcile with her and genially reintroduced themselves. Soon after, Yao, Chien-Po, and Ling, and the other recruits completed their training, and are called to the war front (due to Mushu's meddling).

After a long march to a mountain summit, the troops were ambushed by the Huns and when Mulan runs with the last cannon in an attempt to destroy them, the trio follow. However, they swiftly hide behind a rock when a large avalanche begins to come down. When Mulan and Shang were swept away to the edge of a cliff by the avalanche, the trio and the rest of the troops pull the pair to safety with a rope. When Mulan's identity as a female was exposed, the trio display visible shock and was sadly forced to leave her behind on the summit to return to the Imperial City. When the Emperor was kidnapped by Shan-Yu, Shang and the trio choose to follow Mulan's plan to rescue him. By dressing up as concubines, they were able to sneak into the palace and knock out the guards. Once the Emperor was out of harm's way, Yao, Chien-Po, and Ling leave, and are forced to look on as Mulan becomes trapped with Shan-Yu. After Shan-Yu's defeat, Yao, Chien-Po, and Ling come to Mulan's defense from Chi-Fu's rantings. When Mulan was named a hero by the Emperor, the trio and everyone else present bow to Mulan in respect.
