Wellspring materials are colored purple, and contain cyan lightningbolt patterns. A Wellspring Shard is a smooth, vaguely triangular jewel with two large prongs on its top and two small, slightly curved spikes on its sides. A Wellspring Stone consists of a smooth, vaguely triangular jewel with three spikes on its top, with a large crescent-shaped attachment on the left, and a smaller crescent-shaped jewel on the right. A Wellspring Gem consists of a smooth, vaguely triangular jewel with a short spike on its top, with two intersecting crescent-shaped attachments at the bottom. A Wellspring Crystal consists of a center that is composed of three oval shapes fused together, with a large curving spike and smaller crescent-shaped attachment on three sides.
Wellspring materials are represented by jewels with a [[List of Synthesis Materials|Modifier material]] structure. They are purple and have jagged, cyan patterns resembling bolts of electricity and swirls of air in them, reflecting the two essences the material contains.


The material's name refers to the essence of energy it contains.
Both the English and Japanese names of this material reflect the electrical bolts in the jewels. "Surging" references power surges that lightning can cause. Lightning is a flow of electric energy.
