:::::If I remember correctly, you also have to protect her, and when she has too much damage, you lose. This could also disqualify someone as assistant, because instead of assisting you, they need assistance themselves. However, when Leon assists you in protecting the gate, he does count as an assistant, because he doesn't have a damage gauge himself, only the gate has one. So basically, if you will lose when the other character gets too much damage, that character is not an assistant.
