== Guards or Warriors? ==

Dilan, Aeleus and Braig appear to be guards. Yet, they are referred to as "apprentices" of Ansem the Wise. While we all know Ansem the Wise (a.k.a. DiZ) was a scientist, he was also a ruler. Rulers are usually commanders in their military force. I think that Braig, Dilan and Aeleus would thus be more along the lines of soldiers or warrior apprentices than just guards. Then, probably from following orders from Xehanort/Xehanort's Heartless, they became involved in the experiments. However, this is just speculation...
