If this Heartless possesses you, it will drain most to all of Roxas's HP, so just like when battling the [[Hover Ghost]], it's best to continuously hit it. Be careful though, for the more damage forced on it, the higher it floats, making the break from its location to the ground large, also making an opportunity for possessing you. However, when it possesses you continuously pressing A and B may release Roxas from its grip. The player should also take note of the claw-attack the Carrier Ghost uses when at close range. One simple Dodge Roll can escape this tactic. A good panel to have equipped in this battle is the Auto-Life panel.
