In ''[[Kingdom Hearts III]]'', Shadows function much the same as their previous incarnations, however here they can be forced out of the ground with the usage of [[Water]] magic, and they topple to the ground if ran into. They can be easily defeated within a single combo, making them useful for building up the situation gauge and recovering the HP they drop, especially in the [[Demon Tower]] fight where the cast-offs will drop extra HP when defeated.


A Shadow with a pink aura and especially high health is fought in [[Scala ad Caelum]], and defeating it is necessary to advance. After portions of its health are depleted, it will teleport around the area to distract Sora with other enemies. Defeating this Shadow will grant Sora a fragment of Kairi's heart and move him onto the next area, regardless of how many other enemies remain.
Shadows live up to their name, emerging from the ground to attack with a simple but fierce claw strike. Although the Shadow is relatively easy to defeat when alone, its habit of attacking in swarms can make it too much to handle. If it is too much, it is a good idea to use [[Thunder]] (only in ''Kingdom Hearts'') because it has a wide range. If it is alone, just fight it with the Keyblade.
