The Light Cycle is a mini-game in Kingdom Hearts II and Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance. It is based on the Light Cycle game from the Disney films Tron (film) and Tron: Legacy.
The Light Cycle first appeared in the 1982 movie Tron (film). The game in the movie was like the popular game Snake, where the player had to guide other players into the lines created by the cycles. It appears in Kingdom Hearts II as a mini-game with different rules than the original, and again in Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance.

Design
After getting captured by a Recognizer and meeting Sam Flynn, Riku is forced by CLU to play a round of Light Cycle. After derezzing numerous Guards, the Commantis appears, which Riku battles. The Dream Eater flees after its defeat, while a fed-up Riku blasts a heart-shaped hole in the stadium wall and escapes, eventually reuniting with Sam.
The design of the Light Cycle is completely different than that of the original movie, instead using the design of the redesigned Light Cycles from the PC game, Tron 2.0.

Sora must play a round of Light Cycle against some cycle-like Heartless, after Goofy fiddles around with the computer in the holding cell in Space Paranoids.
A Light Cycle makes a cameo appearance while Sora and his friends look for a required piece of data that is necessary to turn on the power and escape, with Donald playing on it.

Design
Prior to the race, a Devastator Heartless blasted a hole in the wall, which Sora attempts to get to.
Sora's Space Paranoids Light Cycle is based on (and very similar to) the redesigned Light Cycles from the PC game Tron 2.0. While the Light Cycles in the original film were shorter in length and had a canopy covering the rider, Sora's is longer, with a "floating" front wheel and a design somewhat more reminiscent of real-world motorbikes. It also lacks the canopy of the original Light Cycles, leaving Sora exposed but able to attack enemies. Additionally, Sora's Light Cycle is blue, matching his circuitry; in the original film, Flynn, Tron, and Ram respectively ride yellow, orange, and red Light Cycles while the ones ridden by the enemy team are blue.

The Light Cycles in The Grid are nearly identical to the ones in Tron: Legacy, being black vehicles that more closely resemble real-world motorbikes than their Space Paranoids counterparts. The interior of the wheels and the decals on their sides and driving seat are covered in circuitry that matches the driver's; the Black Guards' Light Cycles are covered in orange circuitry, while Riku's is covered in light blue circuitry. Like their film counterparts, these Light Cycles generate a ribbon of light matching the cycle's circuitry color that can derez opponents behind the user. Riku's Light Cycle is also equipped with two turrets that resemble Identity Disks. These turrets, when on standby, rest on the back wheels; when active, they float near the front wheels.
Controls
The Light Cycle mini-game operates under a rock-paper-scissors-esque attack system. If you Attack an enemy while it is guarding, you are blown away. If you use Charge against an enemy that is guarding, the barrier will be destroyed and the Heartless damaged. You can easily block a Charge with an Attack. If you pass through a barrier or run into a wall, you will take damage.

Kevin Flynn owns a personal Light Cycle that bears a stronger resemblance to the Light Cycles from the original Tron, complete with a canopy. It is predominantly white with black highlights. The number 786 is printed in red in front of the back wheel. Flynn's Light Cycle is only visible inside his personal hideout, and it has never been seen in action.
*c Guard: A shield surrounds the bike and protects against Heartless attacks. It protects from Attack, but is ineffective against Charge.
*s Charge: The bike charges up and then smashes the nearest target. It breaks through Guard, but is vulnerable to Attack.
*x Attack: Sora attacks Heartless with the Keyblade. It can be used against Charge, but is weak against Guard.
*l1 / l2: Turns the bike left.
*r1 / r2: Turns the bike right.

Kingdom Hearts II
The ultimate goal of the Light Cycle mini-game is to destroy 30 Heartless. There are only 2 types of Heartless available in the mini-game:
The Light Cycle mini-game operates under a rock-paper-scissors-esque attack system. Normal attacks are deflected with Guard, but can intercept Charges, which can break through Guards. If Sora drives into a wall, he will take damage.
*Magnum Loader
**Blue: The blue Magnum Loaders attack Sora normally, press c to guard against their attacks.
**Yellow: The yellow Magnum Loaders can charge at Sora, attack them with X before they hit Sora.
**Green: The green Magnum Loaders can guard themselves, break their defenses by charging at them with s.
**White: The white Magnum Loaders can attack, guard, and charge. Pay attention to what type of attack they're using and counter it.
*Devastator
**These are found only in the exit of the mini-game and will shoot at Sora. If Sora guards at the right moment, their projectiles will bounce off and hit themselves instead, protecting Sora while defeating them at the same time.

*lana: Move left or right.
*l1 / l2: Turns the bike left. Only usable when LEFT appears on screen.
*r1 / r2: Turns the bike right. Only usable when RIGHT appears on screen.

The Light Cycle controls are much simpler here than in Kingdom Hearts II, and consist of:

*dsy : Riku switches weapons between the ribbon and turrets. Switching to the ribbon grants a brief speed boost.
In The Grid, Riku is captured by the Black Guards and forced by CLU himself to take part in the Light Cycle race. Like in Kingdom Hearts II, the races require Riku to defeat his foes to proceed. The enemies will be several Black Guards, and the Ele Kamakiri. Riku's Light Cycle has turrets installed, unlike Sora's Light Cycle in Space Paranoids.
*dsb Jump: Jumps with the Light Cycle, dodging enemy attacks.
*dsa Assault Shot: Fires projectiles at enemies in front. Only usable when the turrets are active.

<!--Seriously, we need to update this page, now that the game's been released. Anyway, Riku battles several Black Guards and Ele Kamakiri during his run, before using his turrets to open a wall and escape

The ultimate goal of the Light Cycle mini-game is to destroy 30 Heartless.

;Obstacles
*Magnum Loader: Magnum Loaders come in four different varieties. The color scheme corresponds to the Magnum Loader's actions:
**Blue Magnum Loaders use Attack. Sora can defend their attacks with Guard.
**Yellow Magnum Loaders can use Charge. Sora can intercept their charges with Attack.
**Green Magnum Loaders can use Guard. Sora can use Charge to break their guards.
**White Magnum Loaders can use Charge, Attack, and Guard. Sora must observe their actions and counter with the appropriate command.
*Devastator: Found only in the exit of the mini-game and will shoot at Sora. If Sora guards at the right moment, their projectiles will bounce off and hit themselves instead, protecting Sora while defeating them at the same time.

Commantis
The first time Riku participates in the Light Cycle, he is required to play until the Commantis appears. A variety of enemies appear to try to stop him.

Afterward, Riku can return to the Light Cycle track in order to play the mini-game version. Here, he attempts to take down as many opponents as possible to obtain points.<!--Completing this mini-game awards Riku with a Fleeting Figment; mention on Fleeting (KH3D)-->

;Obstacles
*Guards ride Light Cycles and try to damage Riku with their light ribbons. They can be destroyed with Riku's ribbon or turrets.
*Flying Guards fly along the track and attack Riku with bombs. They can be shot down with Riku's turrets.
*Recognizers are indestructible, and shoot a single laser down the track before flying away.
