The soundtrack is released on November 26, 2014 in Japan<ref>[http://store.jp.square-enix.com/item/SQEX_10469_72.html Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX - Square Enix eSTORE]</ref> and in Europe on December 15. The album is also a part of ''Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 & 2.5 ReMIX Original Soundtrack Box'', which compiles the ''Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX Original Soundtrack'' and the ''[[Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX Original Soundtrack]]''.<ref>[http://store.jp.square-enix.com/item/SQEX_10473_9.html Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 & 2.5 ReMIX Original Soundtrack Box - Square Enix eSTORE]</ref> The box costs $79.99.

A majority of the tracks in the album are re-orchestrated versions of tracks from the games in ''Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX''. However, the tracks "[[Passion -KINGDOM Orchestra Instrumental Version-]]", "[[Showdown at Hollow Bastion]]", "{{c|Destiny Islands|track}}", and "[[Dearly Beloved -Reprise-]]" are lifted directly from the ''[[Kingdom Hearts II Original Soundtrack]]'', as those songs already had full orchestration in the original release.

On February 8, 2023, the ''Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX Original Soundtrack'' was released worldwide alongside the ''Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX Original Soundtrack'' on digital platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and YouTube Music. It is nearly identical to the physical release, with only two alterations: "[[Passion -opening version-]]" and "[[Passion -after the battle-]]" were removed from the digital listing, and the ''Kingdom Hearts II'' version of "[[Dearly Beloved]]" was given a descriptive subtitle, now being written as "Dearly Beloved -KINGDOM HEARTS II Version-".
