Pureblood Heartless ARE hearts that became corupted by darkness when they died/lost their heart, while Emblem Heartless are created when someone's heart is taken by the Heartless, usually an Emblem (sure they both sound similar, but they are very different in how they are created). There is no doubt that the Kingdpm Hearts we know of was an artificial one because of the fact that it came from a simple process of destroying Emblem Heartless to release hearts (although wheather or not the hearts are fake is yet to be determined). But since the explosion released the hearts which were covered in darkness for so long, those hearts went into the "natural" process of becoming a Heartless, thus becoming Shadows (which are Purebloods who don't release hearts, so the whole comotion about not destroying the Shadows without risking Kingdom Hearts getting completed being almost pointless). As for Axel and Saix, who knows? As far as I know, Axel's tear drops are just make-up, and Saix's scar probably has to do with him losing his heart. But know I have a question that we would all like to know the answer to: Who The Heck Are You!? AROS 17:14, April 8, 2010 (UTC)

::You have that reversed. Emblems are the hearts, that's why they release them when they are slain. Purebloods are just darkness, that's why they have always been there, even in BBS, and why they dissipate into darkness when killed. That's also why Yen Sid says that they will continue to exist until no heart has darkness in it.
::Emblems are "artificial" in that they have to be made by stealing a heart, instead of simply manifesting due to the darkness in somebody's heart. For example, the Darkside in the Awakening manifested due to the darkness in Sora's heart, even though his heart wasn't stolen.
::When a heart taken by darkness is slain, the heart goes back to Kingdom Hearts to wait for its body. If Purebloods were hearts, they would release hearts.Glorious CHAOS! 03:33, April 9, 2010 (UTC)

As Yen Sid says in "KHII", the Heartless cannot be separated from the darkness in people's hearts, and have been around for a long time. Beings of darkness can draw out the darkness in the heart, so Master Xehanort could summon the Neoshadows with his own hands. In the same way, when Xehanort and Ansem the Wise's students begin to perform the first experiments on the darkness of the heart, artificial Heartless were created in large numbers.
